Explanation of Reality Devices
Reality Clock: gives the time since the creation of the universe that it is in, quite accurately, on a complex analogue display. Reality Theory I is required. Includes a Power Cell/Feed on which it can run for two years. Passive Sensor. Uses: almost none. Weight: 100gp.

Entropy Scanner: causes objects to appear to glow to the living eye, the more organised they are the brighter. Reality Theory I is required. This glowing cannot be picked up by any instruments, except those that use living senses. In some cases it may give an up to +20% bonus to UM. Almost no form of defence stops this glow except Mind Blank, (Limited) Wishes, and a Reality Generator/Shield, even then a dark patch may show as even the air normally glows. Passive Sensor. Uses: 1ep/1"rad/round. Weight: 50gp.

Universal Constant Analyser: gives the universal constants of the universe that it is in on a complex analogue display. Reality Theory II is required. In some cases there may be a settling time of up to two game turns before a complete and stable set of readings may be taken, Taps in use nearby, i.e. within magical creature sensing range, (or non-material devices within 1") will distort the readings but an extra +50% time can compensate for this. Analysis of these constants will tell what adjustments must be made to devices to work here, and what devices could not be made to work. Maintains a field around its circuitary (and a power supply up to 10gpwt) which creates the conditions of the universe that the field was turned on in, thus will work in almost any universe but could still be physically smashed. Lesser Reality Generator: a lesser version of Reality Generator which makes minor changes in the local laws of the universe around it, in a Reality Zone. Reality Theory III is required to build, and Programming II (and in some cases Reality Theory) to operate, this. Possible changes are things like: a (+)10% chance of any magic failing, or plus/minus two levels of magical effect, or plus/minus 25% dimensional change in time, mass, or volume, or acting as a device. Minor Reality Generator Control program is required and allows one change within the area. The generator does not effect itself (except when acting as a Teleporter), and may not power itself from the area it effects. This device has only one L, but a Reality Generator may function as a higher L of it. A linked Matter Scanner of equal L may also be used. All effects and 'devices' can act anywhere within the area effected, in acting as a device the idling power and 2x the standard device power must be used. Astral Functions: are the Portal Generator and Teleporter functions of a (Lesser) Reality Generator which are one of the few exceptions to 'not effecting anything outside the area'. This is because they function via the Astral Plane, which can be considered to be distance-less (hence all places are the same, hence are not actually 'outside the area'). The Teleporter function also allows objects to be moved around inside the area. Other astral functions may be possible.

Note that acting as both an Image Scanner and Image Display at a single place counts as only one 'device'. These require little or no programming if have a Matter Scan of that device (assume these are 10MC each) in a computer (usually the one containing the (Minor) Reality Generator Control program), and if the 'Generator simply acts as a device (assuming that device needs no further programming). Space will be needed in some form of information Storage to 'unfold' the Matter Scan of each device so it can function (assume 100MC per device).

Lesser Reality Shield: a lesser version of Reality Shield which shields from minor changes in the local laws of the universe around it, within a Reality Zone. Reality Theory III is required. Requires input, generally from a linked Matter Scanner of equal L, which functions throughout the area of the 'Shield, and is compared continuously against 'standard' (or stored) reality values. Minor Reality Shield Control program is required, which will stop things such as Disintegrate, Polymorph (Others or Any Object) or any function of a Lesser Reality Generator, one at a time. Can act as a Portal Block of equal L, or block a Matter Scanner or an Image Scanner or Image Display of equal L. This device has only one L, but a Reality Shield may function as a higher L of it. Matter Scanner: determines the precise structure of almost any object. Reality Theory II is required. There is sufficient detail that it includes information such as Programming Device programs and Reflex Patterns, sometimes called a Lesser Matter Pattern, and at +1L includes personalities and full details of Non Material Objects. The information produced is 'hyper-holographic' and may be stored or processed by Matter Scanner Analysis program to extract details. Analysis will usually take several hours unless using a Matter Analysis Pattern produced by the analysis of a very similar object (e.g. an earlier scan) which reduces the time to several turns. A Matter Scanner can be used to read the colours of Auras, detect whether things are magical in any way, detect psionics, detect any form of non-alchemical energy storage (except non-material, unless connected to a Non Material Interface), detect the density of materials, and detect a Reality Zone (unless it is hidden by a Reality Shield of at least +2L), in one round without any analysis. At +1L may act as a Reality Clock and a Universal Constant Analyser, without any analysis. A scan takes 10 rounds, half time/extra L. The information, sometimes called a Mental Matter Pattern, is typically processed by Matter Scanner Analysis program, or by more specialist programs such as Personality Extraction; a Matter Analysis Pattern may be generated or made use of. A Mental Matter Scanner can be used to read the colours of Auras and can detect a Reality Zone (unless it is hidden by a Reality Shield of at least +3L), in one round without any analysis. Allows changes, such as dimensional changes in time or mass, alterations in the power or reliability of magic, up to any laws imaginable within the area, based on power used. Can also act as a Lesser Reality Generator of equal L, but without the double device power usage; these are all minor functions. Minor Reality Generator Control program is required as a minimum and allows one (minor) change within the area, Reality Generator Control program allows three (standard) changes (+2/extra L), and three copies allows nine (major) changes (+6/extra L). The generator does not effect itself, and may not power itself from the area it effects (DMs see Macro Cosmic Tap in "Demigod Devices" for effects of feedback). All effects and devices can act anywhere within the area effected, and any device that a 'Generator can act as at +1L may be linked to it to increase the number of things it can do at once, e.g. extra Integrators and Matter Scanners. Careful programming allows a Reality Generator to function as most devices of -1L, except those with very high information density, such as computers and information storage, most "Life Devices", or a Synthesiser. At +1L as a Macro Cosmic Tap (standard, not the "Demigod Devices" version) and Matter Creator of equal L, a Trancer, Life Support Generator and a Reality Shield of -1L. These are all standard functions. Also as a minor function at +1L may act as a Matter Scanner of -2L. Reality Generator Functions: are of three varieties: minor, standard and major. For a given type of function the radius of the reality zone must be supplied with enough power and it must cover the whole operating zone of the function. For example, acting as a Weather Controller (a minor function) requires the whole area within which weather is controlled to be within the reality zone, and 10ep/1"rad/round is required to maintain the reality zone, plus 10ep/1"rad/turn to control the weather, which might not be over the whole reality zone. Also needed is at least Minor Reality Control program, and for clear and precise control a Matter Scan of a Weather Controller, and 100MC of information Storage to 'unfold' the Weather Controller scan (a custom written weather control program could be used instead). If it was desired to act as a Climate Controller (a standard function) then 100ep/1"rad/round is required to maintain the reality zone, plus 20ep/1"rad/turn to control the climate. Reality Control program would be needed instead, and for simplicity the Weather Controller scan replaced by a Climate Controller scan. If spot alien environments, say ranging from vacuum to gas-giant pressures, and temperatures from absolute zero to solar surface, which can be freely moved into and out of (a major function, and assuming the DM agrees that this would be possible with a device of -1L on the Reality Generator) then 1000ep/1"rad/round is required to maintain the reality zone. Three copies of Reality Control program would be needed instead, and a custom reality control program would be needed as there is no standard device which does this. In general for major functions any power required to run a device which is no more than 100ep/1"rad/round may be ignored; i.e. the basic zone maintenance power is sufficient.

Reality Shield: protects a volume from devices or effects which directly effect reality, e.g. Reality Generators and (Limited) Wishes. Reality Theory III is required. Protects fully from Reality Generators or magical effects of equal L, e.g. L=8th protects from Reality Generator I or Limited Wishes, L=9th would be required for Wishes; power used depends on how drastic the changes shielded against are, generally half the power a Reality Generator would need to make the change over the changing volume is needed (500ep will stop almost any point change). Can also act as a Lesser Reality Shield of equal L. Subtle attacks may count as +1 or even +2L; the Shield protects itself at -1L for example. Requires input, generally from a linked Matter Scanner of -1L, which is compared against 'standard' (or stored) reality values. At +1L can act as a Matter Scanner of -2L. Minor Reality Shield Control program is required as a minimum which will protect against one thing, Reality Shield Control program blocks nine changes (+6/extra L), and three copies stop any number of things. Blocks an Integrator of equal L, at +1L a Trancer of -1L. Any changes may be simply recorded, rather than shielding against them, using just the idling power. In this respect the Matter Scanner functions throughout the volume. May feed incorrect information, usually from a Matter Pattern, to a Matter Scanner of at most -2L. Self Repairing Form: is not a device but the time and cost to enable a living creature (and its equipment) to repair itself. Reality Theory I is required. This requires a Crystal with the Matter Pattern of an exact duplicate of the creature produced using Projected Form of equal L (the easiest way to obtain this is using a Grower). If the copy is not exact, for example produced using an Android Mould and a Machine Synthesiser, damage repaired will fit this form, rather than the original. As long as the Crystal is undamaged and powered damage may be repaired at 10% per round (+10%/extra L) using 1ep/10gpwt, or 3HP/round (+3HP/extra L) using 3ep/HP, returned to its correct functioning; changing memories and other changing information may not be repaired by this means. If there is not enough mass then missing parts may be 'projected' as Projected ~. Range: touch. Uses: none. Weight: none.

Morphic Form: is not a device but the time and cost to enable a living creature (and its equipment) to change between a number of shapes. Reality Theory II is required. There are a base two forms (+1/extra L), the Matter Pattern of the alternative forms must have been stored in one Crystal by means of multiple Projected Form of lower L (the easiest way to obtain these is using a Grower). A chosen form is 'created' by reshaping the material of another form (not necessarily stored in the crystal, but if not its shape is permanently lost) from a pattern using 1ep/10gpwt, or 3ep/HP, to reshape it. If there is not enough mass to reshape then treat as Projected ~, if there is too much it must be suppressed using 1ep/100gpwt/round. The unequal mass may be stored or retrieved from an associated Cache. See Life Mover in "Life Devices" on moving memories, and requisites and HP on changing bodies. The shape taken is the original one stored in the Crystal, ignoring any damage it may have taken when there 'previously'; any memories, power or information stored in the shape are lost when change (lost power as light), unless there is a corresponding place for them in the shape changed into (i.e. change into an unintelligent form and will slowly loose most of your intelligence until change back). With a Modify Machine roll a different creature may have the 'morphic crystal'; there is always at least a 5% chance this will destroy the crystal. Also can function as Self Repairing Form of -1L.
