A Pattern Synthesiser is an ingenious combination of pattern and bit Computer Devices which gives something capable of intelligence (a Robot Mind) even though the device has far less complexity than, for example, a human brain. 'Android' describes a living being grown in some variety of Android Mould and having an Android Mind, 'Android Robot' describes a robot resembling a living being but having (usually) a Robot Mind. The programs required to operate many of these devices, and the data to place in them, are described in Programming and Information Devices.
In a number of cases Hit Dice (HD) are refered to, these are assumed to be D8 and in many cases have a fixed number of Hit Points (HP) per HD, so if 5HD are 25HP. If experience is gained and more levels, and hence HD, are gained then these are rolled normally, and might in some cases be other than D8.
The Life and Biological Theory required to build and operate many of these devices is usually restricted to suitable people, those with WIS 13+ and who are not Evil, and who are Good in the case of Life Theory.

Explanation of Life Devices
Bionic Limbs: include arms and legs, and hands or feet alone. Life Theory I is required. These are based on Robot Arm, Robot Leg and Multi Purpose Hand, with suitable interface between living and non-living parts, and covered with a living skin providing touch and other sensations, similar to an Android Robot Skin. This skin is generated with the 'Limbs, by means similar to a one-off Android Mould, and a full replacement skin for up to two limbs may be grown onto the Limbs in a week in a 'Mould (quarter of a year in a Lesser 'Mould). The STR and DEX provided are 13 (15 at +1L), and have a skin AC of 9, the internals have AC2 (AC1 at +1L). A second limb may be built for +50% time and cost, building just a hand or foot is half cost. The non-living parts usually draw their energy to operate from the living parts, i.e. ultimately food and air, but if this is not practical require 2ep/turn for full use, half this if just a hand or foot, double this if both arms or legs, and quadruple if all four limbs. Note that growing the living skin for the limbs is really pushing the limits of the technology, and requires special undifferentiated Culture. Weight: as normal limb. Uses: none, or as above.

Personal Lesser Bio Support: a specialised version of Lesser Bio Support which will only function for one organ (of a Body Pattern) chosen in construction. Life Theory I is required. Functions in all respects as a Bio Support I (L=6), except may support active organs up to 100gpwt; Bio Interface(s) may not be constructed in addition. The Body Pattern of the organ it is to work for must be available during construction, and is hard-wired into this device. If other non-identical organs (for example a Bio Comp of a different L, or even development) are supported by this device they will have at least a 25% chance of immediate death if they are ever removed from it. The organ that it works for may be changed at 10% of the construction cost and with a R/MM roll. This device only has one level. Uses: 5ep/turn. Weight: 100gp.

Lesser Bio Interface: a version of Bio Interface which does not have the triple redundancy and is much less compact. Life Theory I is required. A second 'Interface may be built for +50% time and cost. Note that this is really pushing the limits of the technology, and no 'Personal' or less functional versions of this at lower L are possible. Uses: none, or 1ep/turn. Weight: 50gp.

Drone Programmer: is a specialist 'soft' Mind Programmer. Biological Theory I is required. Does not function as an Educator or Dreamer and the only functions it has are improved programming usable only on an android being grown in some form of Android Mould. Basic imprinting is a basic Drone Mind only, with only reflexes, at +1L has Improved Programming 2 allowing a improved Drone Mind to be imprinted (which is hardwired by rote into the 'Programmer), with 3 INT, WIS, and CHAR. At +1L up to 4 physical skills may also be imprinted. Imprinting a Drone Mind takes one week for the basic, one month for the improved, and one week per physical skill; no programming may be done in the first two months in a (Lesser) Android Mould. This device may not be used to copy a (recorded) persona. Many Techs regard it as unethical to produce a living creature like this. DMs may choose to move this into "Unethical Devices", though it might be claimed that it is immoral rather than unethical. Also see Drone Minds. Uses: 1ep/turn. Weight: 100gp.

Drone Minds: are produced by exercising the empty mind of an Android, to produce something that will accept instruction, and has no initiative of its own. Many Techs regard it as unethical to produce a living creature like this. A basic Drone is produced using a Mind (or Drone) Programmer with Improved Programming 1 in one week, and has only simple responses at physical reflex level (it is effectively just an Interface Pattern (of any DEX), see "Information Devices"). It has no mind and no more spirit than an insect. An improved Drone needs Improved Programming 2 and one month, and has a simple animal-like mind with possibly physical but no mental skills (it is effectively a Simple Animal Persona, see "Information Devices"; suitable for any DEX). It has 3 INT, WIS and CHAR and no more spirit than an animal. Typical skills for a humanoid would be Personal Survival (2 slots), and Speech Reflexes (1 slot), leaving a slot free for a Persona Skill like Cleaning, or even a weapon proficiency. Control of a basic Drone needs something like a Sensory Body Controller, possibly using the Robot Control program and treating it as if 2nd Gen; note that it will almost always be considered willing. Control of an improved Drone is possible via Robot Control as if 3rd Gen, or for example via a Mind Field and a Mind Interface; it will usually be considered willing. As a rule it is not possible to speak through a basic Drone unless an extra week using Improved Programming 2 is used to imprint Speech Reflexes; speech could reasonably be one of the skills imprinted on an improved Drone. Improved Drones have been known to become independant if tightly linked over a long period to a true intelligence, and it has even been known that the combination of a 4th Gen+ AI and an improved Drone slowly becomes independantly intelligent, but neither usually above Simple Persona level, though quite possibly with emotions. It has even been known for a Robot Mind in a Pattern Associator to somehow download itself into even a basic Drone, and escape, but this is probably an effect more like use of a Survival Scanner, and needs to be judged by DMs on a case-by-case basis. Lesser Android Mould: is a restricted version of Android Mould which allows the growing of a flawed flesh android. Life Theory I is required to build this, and Biological Theory I and Programming I to make full use of it. Does not function as a Medi Scanner and may not suspend growth or allow it to continue at a reduced rate. Creatures up to 5HP/1HD may be made (+5HP/1HD per extra L) and each 5HP/1HD takes 1yr (this is the minimum time whatever), nutrients cost 3500gp/yr, some air and water is also required. Height limit 4' (+1'/extra L) and weight limit 40lb (x2/extra L). They are programmed and designed as Android Mould (see Scan Designer program), and may gain experience. Note the need for special undifferentiated Culture, see Android Mould. See Lesser Androids and see Android Minds for further details. Android Mould Control program is required. Uses: 10ep/turn. Weight: 150gpwt.

Lesser Androids: are fully living creatures and are almost indistinguishable from normal creatures unless Detect Age or similar is used. They may have a self-renewing skin dye (typically green, blue or another bright colour), or something like eight digits on hand and feet rather than ten, to distinguish them as (lesser) androids. Other possibilities include things like bold facial markings, and total hairlessness. They will have no extraordinary powers of mind or body, but note that any normal animal or plant is possible. See Body Pattern, and see Basic Body, Standard Body and Superior Body, in "Information Devices" for the body's characteristics. Unfortunately they have only a 7yr (tenth normal) life span after decanting, only take a tenth effect from Longevity ~, and are sterile. If a Medi Scanner is continually used to monitor growth, Life Theory II is used, and a R/MM roll made at -25% the android may make a system shock roll on decanting to have full life span and not be sterile, failing this roll gives the usual problems. Due to these problems many non-evil Techs consider growing Lesser Androids to be unethical. Lesser Androids may be designed so they grow (gaining extra HD/levels) after decanting, to a limit as +2L of 'Mould, this taking at least four years for safety, and a minimum of four months if you don't care about the health of the android (cancers, heart failure, and immune system failure are typical problems).

Arti Womb: is a variation on the Android Mould which can only grow creatures to term, i.e. when they would be normally born. Life Theory I is required to build this, and Biological Theory I to make use of it. New-born creatures up to 5HP/1HD may be made (+5HP/1HD per extra L) and takes the normal time required to come to term (e.g. 39wks for humans), nutrients cost 3500gp/yr, some air and water is also required. There is a height limit of 4' (+1'/extra L) and weight limit 40lb (x2/extra L) at birth. They are designed as with an Android Mould, or may come from natural sources, but may not be programmed (however synthesised biological sounds and movements of the womb are provided for stimulus of the fetus); in all respects they are normal creatures (with the same restrictions on powers as an Android Mould if grown from Culture). A Medi Scanner could be used to check on the progress of growth. Note the need for a special undifferentiated Culture, see Android Mould, egg and sperm from parents, a fertilised egg, or a fetus (and placenta) removed from its mother could be grown to term. See Androids for limits on what can be done. Android Mould Control program is required. At +2L may instead be built bigger as a Macro Arti Womb, which is limited to 15' (+4'/extra L) and 2648lb (x2/extra L) at birth, with other limits as a Macro Android. Alternatively at +2L may be built so 13x quicker as a Fast Arti Womb (e.g. 3wks for humans). Both of these include the equivalent of a Medi Scanner. Uses: 10ep/turn. Weight: 1000gp, macro- 5000gp.

Programming a personality usually takes three months, and no programming may be done in the first two months in a (Lesser) Android Mould. This device is almost always used to copy a (recorded) persona, rather than to exercise the empty mind of an android (which would require Biological Theory I). Also see Android Minds. Uses: 1ep/turn. Android Minds: may be indistinguishable from normal minds, but are often simpler, particularly if they are designed rather than copied. After the first two months of growth (a month of 'resting' is required for 1HD Androids that take one month only) in a (Lesser) Android Mould a Mind (or Android) Programmer can be used to exercise the empty mind of an Android to give reflex level intelligence, with "Improved Programming" 1) simple responses, 2) animal intelligence and simple physical skills, 3) human intelligence (max 13) and simple mental skills. If a personality or a skill is copied either from a recording or directly then treat as +2L of 'Programmer (i.e. Improved Programming 1 gives limited minds (maximum INT, WIS, and CHAR of 8), and 2 allows any minds), also see Android Programmer. A personality usually takes 3 months to imprint, a level of skill, where it is not part of a personality, (e.g. Move Silently; with a maximum where level dependent of the android's HD) may be copied in one week. Androids of (low) human intelligence may gain experience and advance in ability/HD, use whichever is the most appropriate class(es). A personality may be custom designed or assembled using Personality Designer program, usually taking one to six (or more) months, before imprinting. Also see Mind Duplication, and see Drone Minds. Mind Duplication: may occur if the body (and brain) of the android is a copy of someone who is around during (nearly) the entire growth period, particularly if grown in something like a Fast Android Mould, and the mind is at most exercised rather than programmed. More or less of the basic personality may be copied by similarity (i.e. up to full levels and skills), but rarely to the level where complete conscious personal memories are aquired, unless the original concentrates on the android for at least 90% of the growth period. This has happened by accident on occasion, and in extreem cases is independent of normal 'Mould level limits; there is no known means to produce this effect reliably. All androids that this happens to will know they are not the original (unless something like a Mind Programmer with improved programming 3 is used), but their attitude to this depends on their personality, and might well be insecure or philosophical rather than murderous. Pattern Associator: acts as a far more powerful Associative Matrix and, in conjunction with a (Macro) Computer with Artificial Intelligence program (also called 4th Gen), acts as a Pattern Synthesiser of +1L; also known as a Personality Store. Computer Theory II is required, and Life Theory I is required to understand how it works. Must be pre-programmed as a Pattern Synthesiser of +1L with a 'personality', this may not be re-programmed or erased and will acquire experience. The personality is inactive when not connected to the computer; if an 'Associator looses its power supply for more than 3+D4 turns it is dead and useless (a Power Pack, or a Micro Life Tap, would make a good emergency supply). Note that 'Associators, unlike 'Synthesisers, do not sleep, but will probably work better for some rest on occasion, and may drop into an inactive state which uses less power. Robot Minds: become more like human minds with greater L. The basic form gives the equivalent mind of an emotion-less, but very clever, animal, or a dull, emotion-less human, neither with any memories of a past; sometimes called a First. At +1L is competent but has very little emotions, and no understanding of them (both of these could be learned in some circumstances), and its development may be further constrained by initial programming, e.g. a fixed loyalty; sometimes called a Second. At +2L is as a human in all ways and its development may not be constrained by any programming; sometimes called a Third. These are also called 5th, 6th, and 7th Gen. Basic INT, WIS, and CHAR is 4-8 (3+D5), at +1L 9-13 (8+D5), and at +2L 14-18 INT and CHAR (13+D5), and 11-15 WIS (10+D5). Effective characteristics may be higher in specialist areas (typically a total of +5, for example +5 INT with regard to things musical). If are capable of building higher L devices then may modify the roll but not exceed the maximum, e.g. can build L=7 so a Pattern Synthesiser I (L=6) gets +1 roll, hence 4+D5/max 8 INT, WIS, and CHAR; can build L=9 so a Pattern Associator III (L=7) gets +2 roll, hence 15+D5/max 18 INT and CHAR, and 12+D5/max 15 WIS. Basic level of experience is 5th, +2/extra L. If desired then a higher L may have the restrictions and characteristics of a lower L, but retain the higher basic experience level. CHAR might be modified to some extent by the external appearance, probably no more than plus or minus 2 (DM decision). The mind programmed must be designed (e.g. using Personality Designer program), or obtained from somewhere; even if it is a copy of a human mind it will be restricted to the limits of the 'Associator/'Synthesiser characteristics. A designed mind could be exactly tailored to the limits of a specific 'Associator/'Synthesiser. A Drone Mind could be programmed without any design being needed. For their long term sanity it is advised that Robot Minds have a body which is their own, or an Interaction Form.

Robot Mind Devices: applies to those in most non-biological brains. Though mental effects do not normally effect a robot mind one can 'tune in' so as to make use of things like an Educator, a Mind Interface, or even a Sleeper or Dreamer; this also applies to a Mental Imager or other similar illusions. If an attempt is made to force sleep on a robot mind, then the Pattern Synthesiser bonus save V control may be used. However, note that Pattern Associators do not naturally sleep. Mind Probe/Programmer improved probeing and improved programming will not work on robot minds, even if they cooperate; a Robot Mind Probe/Programmer or a Universal Mind Probe/Programmer must be used. However, may 'tune in' so as to cooperate with the body control functions, or with a Body Controller; unconscious body control is not possible. A Mind Amplifier, Suicide Lock or a Trauma Recorder requires the Robot ~ or Universal ~ versions to be used. A Reflex Accelerator is not generally usable, as do not have a living body with a Reflex Pattern, but an Aura Flare or Aura Glow is, as have a life aura. Against a Hypnosis Generator gain the bonus save V control, but are as vulnerable to a Trancer as anyone else. A Mind Field Generator allows use of devices that would be usable otherwise. As a rule anything which works through an Interface Pattern, and does not go below the level of sensory input or the surface of the mind, can be used by or has an effect on a robot mind. Note that the various standard Suspended Animation effects do nothing to robot minds. Non Material robot minds need to use a Non Material Interface, unless the device is itself Non Material, or they have a suitable Material Interaction Form (if this has a biological brain then they may use this as a Dual Mind or Mind Split 'filter' to protect their own mind).

Android Robot Skin: see Android Robot Frame in "Mechanical Devices". Life Theory I is required. A skin is generated with the 'Frame, by means similar to a one-off Android Mould, and a full replacement skin may be grown onto the Frame in 2 weeks in a 'Mould (half a year in a Lesser 'Mould or an Arti Womb). This skin has appropriate organs to digest food, breathe air, and pump blood through it (oxygen use is less, so sufficient to live may be extracted from water and may hold breath for 10mins, water reserves are good for several days, and food reserves for several weeks), its senses of touch, taste and smell may be used by the robot given appropriate interfaces (usually Tacticoder). The skin may be considered to have 8+D5 CON, 13+D5 if Medium, and 19 if Heavy. The skin is considered to be 1HD and if this damage plus more than the skin's CON is taken the skin is considered dead, it may be healed by almost any normal means, including rest. For simplicity a DM may rule that the frame is not damaged while the skin remains alive, but note anyway that the skin gives the Frame +1 DR (+2 DR for Bigger Robot Frames) while it remains alive. As a DM option if a robot uses a Pattern Synthesiser programmed so it starts as first level (or a similar Personality Evoker) its skin HD might become its level HD and increase with earned experience. If desired the skin and frame may be re-designed so that living muscles provide some or all of the STR. This reduces the power usage for movement (and increases required food etc) but if the skin dies this STR disappears. Implanted Circuitry may be used to add devices to the skin, but weight and power limits are halved. 'Skins may be easily designed using the Scan Designer program. Android Robot Fertility: see Android Robot Skin, and see Android Robot Frame in "Mechanical Devices". By default Android Robots are sterile, i.e. their reproductive systems can not engender or bear children. However, if Life Theory II is used when the skin is grown, then they may be fertile, and will have fully living children, who resemble them as much as would be the case with beings who are fully living. In no way will there be any difference between these and any other children, except they will tend to have an above average CON.

Life Mover Remote: see Life Mover. Life Theory II is required. One of these may be constructed in parallel with a 'Mover, at -2L on the 'Mover, and optionally gives access to the controls of the 'Mover from anywhere via a continuously running Portal Generator which uses the Remote for a 'fix' (uses 1ep/turn). A Remote is used to allow a 'Mover to make a remote transfer to a new body (often when dying); this destroys the 'Remote. Remote transfer cannot be initiated from the 'Mover itself. Multiple 'Remotes may be built and tuned with a Portal Generator each, but only one may be the 'master' and capable of initiating a remote transfer at any one time; if the master becomes untuned the first alternative which tries to become master succeeds. Each 'Remote is constructed for a given 'Mover (access to it (or the master 'Remote) is required) and physical access to the 'Mover (and 100ep) is needed to tune one, tuning is only maintained as long as the 'Remote is powered with 1ep/round and a Portal Generator linked to its 'Mover is focused on it (note effects of Portal Block). The Remote system may also be used for instant communication. Uses: 1ep/round, transfer- 100ep. Weight: 100gp.

Drug Gland: is a varient of Bio Circuitry which can only be used to construct an organ which can secrete a specific drug or Palliative, usually directly into the bloodstream. Life Theory I is required. A Lesser Android Mould of at least equal L (or an Android Mould of +1L) is also required. This organ is effectively weightless and draws all the resources it need to survive and make drugs from a normal living body, and can store up to three 'doses' of a single type of a standard Palliatives of at most -3L, taking one day per L to make a dose. There are some specialised glands which can make a either of a closely matched pair of drugs, generally a drug and its equivalent (+1L) neutralise drug, for example block pain (L=1) and neutralise block pain (L=2), a Pain Control Gland, indefinate contraceptive (L=1) and neutralise contraceptive (L=2), a Conception Control Gland, sleep (L=1) and neutralise sleep (L=2), a Sleep Control Gland. Another specialised gland is the Healing Gland, which can continuously produce sufficient drug (L=1) to increase healing by 10x, at a cost of needing extra food and rest, and the Sus An Gland, which releases 'Sus An buffer' (L=2) when revived from Sus An. At +1L mnemonic (L=1) and neutralise mnemonic (L=3), a Mnemonic Control Gland, which should be used with care. And at +2L remove exhaustion (L=3) and neutralise remove exhaustion (L=4), a Fatigue Control Gland, and a final gland is the Suicide Gland which releases a very fast poison (L=3) which only an almost immediate Neutralise Poison of some form can prevent from causing almost instant death. Glands are placed in the body using Implanted Circuitary and the maximum limit is the number that one use of Implanted Circuitary makes possible, i.e. a basic 3. Automatic mental control of all implanted glands requiring only slight concentration is acquired. Uses: none. Weight: none.

Bio Comp: a relative of the (Micro) Computer which uses biological, rather than laser and crystal, computer elements. Computer Theory II and Life Theory I is required. A Lesser Android Mould of at least equal L (or an Android Mould of +1L) is also required. Must be implanted so as to be part of a living body which provides it with nutrients and air, be kept in a (Lesser) Android Mould, or something like a (Lesser) Bio Support must be used. Though very different in design, the standard Programming Device programs produce exactly the same results from laser-and-crystal, force-field, and biological computers. Basic capacity for programs is split into three 4 Machine Capacity (MC) unit 'lobes' (x3 capacity per extra L, i.e. +1L 12+12+12MC, +2L 36+36+36MC), and unless set not to do so during construction grows extra capacity at a rate of 25% of original capacity per ten years active use (may be pro-ratered in 2MC units), sometimes written 'Bio Comp I +50%' for example. Lives indefinately and if suitable cushioning is used it is quite rugged; redundant system designs sometimes deliberately only use two lobes, keeping the third as a spare. Interfacing non-living devices to this is done with a Biocoder, with a second being required if it is also to be connected to a Video Camera (or Robot Eyes). This device generates a mental-energy field but does not have a spirit, and is subject to possession unless closely coupled to a Pattern Associator/Synthesiser or a living creature; AIs in them with at least 3rd Gen/Robot Intelligence have also been known to become independently intelligent over time (and hence aquire a spirit). Bio Storage: a relative of Storage which uses biological, rather than crystal, non-exchangable storage elements. Computer Theory I and Life Theory I is required. A Lesser Android Mould of at least equal L (or an Android Mould of +1L) is also required. Must be implanted so as to be part of a living body which provides it with nutrients and air, be kept in a (Lesser) Android Mould, or something like a (Lesser) Bio Support must be used. Capacity is split into two 'lobes' of 80MC each (x3 capacity per extra L, i.e. +1L 240+240MC, +2L 720+720MC), and unless set not to do so grows extra capacity at a rate of 25% of original capacity per ten years active use (may be pro-ratered in 20MC units), sometimes written 'Bio Storage I +50%', or if integrated 'Bio Comp/Storage I +50%', for example. There is a third lobe, but this is used to provide redundant (more reliable) storage. Frequently integrated with Bio Comp of the same L and if so it has no separate weight; if used alone (with non-living devices) a Biocoder is needed to access information in it. Also see Hardwiring. Bio Interface: connects living parts to non-living parts in such a way as can be freely (dis)connected, and is composed itself of a mixture of living and non-living parts. Life Theory II is required. These are very reliable and have triple-redundancy, similar to Bionic Organs. A second 'Interface may be built for +50% time and cost. Multiple living parts with Bio Interfaces can be freely connected, giving capabilities such as a removable head, or the ability to swap hearts, but something like Bio Support and Biocoders would be required for a free mixing of living and non-living parts. Prevents any rejection problems by using a subtle energy field, but it would be wise to avoid mixing incompatible blood types. The (dis)connection requires no R/MM rolls, and may be done given just Technophile NWP; a physical Lock or one under mental command may be fitted at no extra cost. An 'Interface can be fitted to separate organs as the last stage in construction, or using surgery (e.g. Biological Theory I). On or within a body requires major surgery (e.g. Biological Theory II), an Auto Surgeon, or Implanted Circuitary, as appropriate. A pair of 'Interfaces might be one way to reliably reattach severed limbs. The non-living parts usually draw their energy to operate from the living parts, i.e. ultimately food and air, but if this is not practical require no more than 1ep/turn. See Body Interface. Android Mould: allows the growing of a flesh android of any shape of creature the mould is set to using powerful fields to control the growth of tissue. Also functions as a Medi Scanner of -2L. Life Theory II is required to build this, and Biological Theory I and Programming I to make full use of it. Creatures up to 25HP/5HD may be made (+10HP/2HD per extra L) and each 5HP/1HD takes one month (this is the minimum time whatever), nutrients cost 1000gp/month, some air and water is also required. Height limit 7'5" (x2/extra L) and weight limit 331lbs (x8/extra L). To copy something needs a scan (Medi Scanner), a composite or variations in external appearance requires use of Scan Designer program, exotics must be researched. A 'Mould is useless without special undifferentiated Culture, this may be bred but an initial seed is required from somewhere (e.g. a Medical Synthesiser). Growth may be suspended indefinitely or allowed to continue at 1/13 normal rate (1yr/HD) using only a tenth power. Creatures may be held in safe suspended animation indefinitely after growth has finished with no further need for nutrients but if their minds are still being programmed (or 'resting') nutrients cost 250gp/month. Can function as a Arti Womb if required. Provides stimulus during development so that the android is fully fit and ready for immediate activity on release. Note has the 'Standard Pattern' Body Pattern 'hard-wired' into it and enough information storage for almost any Body Pattern. Androids: are fully living creatures and are almost indistinguishable from normal creatures unless Detect Age or similar is used. They may have a self-renewing skin dye (typically green, blue or another bright colour) to distinguish them as androids, optionally only a 7yr life span after decanting (and only take a tenth effect from Longevity ~), or optionally be sterile; most non-evil Techs consider these options unethical. Other possibilities include things like bold facial markings, and total hairlessness. They will have no extraordinary powers, e.g. only hit by silver/magic, lycanthropy, magic; and will only have breath weapons if they are of at least the hit dice of the original; body powers such as regeneration and poison are reproduced. Note that any animals or plants are possible. See Body Pattern, and see Basic Body, Standard Body and Superior Body, in "Information Devices" for the body's characteristics. Multiple 1HP or less creatures may be grown together as long as their total HP is not more than 5, e.g. loads of insects or plant seeds. Androids may be designed so they grow after decanting, to a limit as +1L of 'Mould, this taking at least three years for safety, and a minimum of three months if you don't care about the health of the android (cancers, heart failure, and immune system failure are typical problems). They may be designed so that they grow indefinitely (gaining extra HD/levels), each +1L of 'Mould equivalent should take at least forty years for safety, and a minimum of three years unsafely, and careful design will probably be needed to handle the increased size.

Pattern Synthesiser: combines some of the properties of a Computer and an Associative Matrix to give a decision making ability of a very high level, also known as a Personality Core. Computer Theory II is required to build this, and Computer Theory III, Multi-Planar Theory I and Life Theory I is required to understand how it works. Must be programmed after construction, using Pattern Synthesiser Programming program, to give it a mind (this comes in three marks and can program up to that mark of 'Synthesiser). Programming takes 1 day (7 days at +1L, 21 days at +2L); programming may not be changed once completed. Once programmed 'Synthesisers have a life aura (and a spirit), but death magic and mental effects will not normally work; control magic might work but with a saving throw at least as a fighter of Lx2 level (i.e. base 12th). If a programmed 'Synthesiser looses its power supply for more than 3+D4 rounds it is dead and useless, an emergency power pack option may be added, cost 500gp, which gives 60+D4hrs, non-rechargeable; this is effectively L=2 for purposes of replacement. A Micro Life Tap would also make a good emergency power supply. Sight (via Video Camera(s) etc) requires a Visicoder, hearing and speech (via Microphone/Speaker etc) requires a Vocoder, and smell, taste, touch and very fine manipulation require appropriate sensors and a Tacticoder. Note that the original version of this was built by a Mad Scientist of god-like level of skill, and that it is an improbable combination of a Pattern Associator and Field Processor which is far smaller and uses far less power than it has any right to. Also note that 'Synthesisers, as opposed to 'Associators, need to sleep as a human does, and show similar symptoms if deprived of this. See Robot Minds for further details. Interaction Form: is not a device, but the use of certain Environmental and Sensor Devices to enable an artificial intelligence of some sort, usually a Robot Mind, to produce a form through which it interacts with the world. This is particularly necessary with Non Material Computers as otherwise they are intangible and nearly invisible. This form does not have any separate intelligence or spirit, but is integrated into the AI so that it is its viewpoint on the world. Damaging the form, if possible, cannot directly permanently harm the AI, but may have psychological effects. A typical form is the appearance of a human body, though a robot body is possible. The form will have a clear identity, but details such as clothing, hair length and style, and possibly ornamentation and hair colour, may be changed. This is all so the AI has a clear sense of personal identity with the form. The basic form is a Humanoid Holo Display and a Humanoid Holo Camera; note this also provides speech, hearing and the sound effects of movement. The standard form is an Humanoid Image Display and a Humanoid Image Scanner, which functions as a near-perfect form of full spectrum light and sound; note this also provides a near perfect sense of smell (and taste), sight extending into the IR and UV, and hearing (and speech) into the sub and ultra sonic region. The superior form is a Humanoid Dimensional Interface, which provides a touchable form which can be smelled (and even tasted!); note this also provides a sense of touch. A varient form is provided by the Mental Imager, which provides a purely mental form, which at +1L includes smell and touch. A Colour Holocoder and a Biocoder are probably the ideal interface to the Form. The Micro version of the various Displays could be used instead, for a small Form, or for just a hand, head or face. Non Material Computers are actually capable of generating as standard a truely physical form.

There are no standard procedures for causing this to happen, though varied experience, and someone directing strong emotions at them over a period of time, is believed to help. Animal level, rather than human level, intelligence, though sometimes with a strong emotional component such as loyalty, is more common. Also see Personality Processor.

Survival Scanner: is a specialist, single-use Life Mover intended to allow survival after death in another form. Life Theory II is required. The form taken depends on the skill of the constructor, a given form may be used if it could be constructed at -1L of maximum L usable, e.g. Lesser Androids and Pattern Associators require L=5th so if can construct L=6th they could be used, similarly Androids and Pattern Synthesisers require L=6th and hence L=7th, and Non Material Computers require L=9th and hence L=10th. The switch is activated by the imprinter dying, or their spirit/soul otherwise being permanently forced from their body, if they are within 1" (+1"/extra L) of the 'Scanner and is normally permanent. The form must be imprinted with the personality of the person who intends to be placed in it, usually from a Personality Recorder, in whatever way is appropriate for that form, but the form remains inactive (and protected against possession) until the switch. The form must be regularly updated with new experiences until the switch (usually from a Personality Recorder) which takes the imprinter a total of a game turn per month thereafter. Sometimes desperate people have managed the jump to the new body even when way out of the 'Scanners range, DMs must judge this chance based on circumstances and the 'Scanner will be useless if they succeed anyway. Uses: 1ep/turn, switch- 400ep. Weight: 1000gp. Non Miniturisable.

Bio Circuitry: is not a device but the additional time and cost to construct a device from biological materials rather than the normal materials used, and requires an Android Mould of at least equal L. Life Theory I is required. Normally 'Bio' is put before the standard name. The device may be at most -3L. For +3000gp a Bio Tap (effective L=3, 5gpwt) may be included which can draw 1ep/turn from biological sources (x2/x2 human weight, increases food use) and no more than one may be used. A Bio Tap can also be constructed as a separate device of L=3+6, but is usually built with bio devices like Transformer Coil II. Bio Circuitry counts as embedded with any required shielding if this is required for a device, and may be considered to be water and air-tight. This device must be kept alive until implanted (an Android Mould will do) and Implanted Circuitry, or possibly an Auto Surgeon (for things that go on the body, or replace things), is the usual way of inserting it into a creature after which it is considered part of the creature's body. No special provision need be made for connecting multiple Bio Devices together to exchange information or power, or for controlling them with other than an act of will requiring mild concentration. Bio Devices: are devices constructed using Bio Circuitry. These include Robot Arm, Robot Leg, Robot Hand, Multi Purpose Hand, Robot Tentacle, and Robot Weapon; these may be larger than human sized at higher L, see Bigger Robot Frames. Concealed Arm/Leg/Tentacle/Weapon are possible as per standard, retractable claws would use Robot Weapon, probably on a Heavy Robot Arm, with a Heavy Multi Purpose Hand. Note that these are completely biological, unlike Bionic Limbs, and if replace existing parts may be used as freely, a Tacticoder might be needed for extra limbs. Complete bodies might be built using Robot Frame, but an Android Mould is probably a far more effective way of doing this. Other possibilities might be Micro Recorder (using non-bio crystals; Bio Micro Recorder Crystals look like nuts?), possibly hooked into the eyes using a (Bio?) Biocoder; various Sensors, Sonic Vision, or Thermal Vision, probably feeding input via a Tacticoder; and at higher L a (Micro) Miniturised Transceiver linked to a Tacticoder or Biocoder to give a technological 'telepathy'. Also (Specialist) Cloth skin, which might be difficult to re-colour using a Cos Mod; one or more Micro Air Supply, which might be allowed to 'heal' back at 2mins/day; or even a Miniturised Breather Mask, most sensibly with a Self Charging Air Supply; might be a good idea, as might Power/Transformer Coil II, a Miniturised Anti Gravity Web with sub-dermal Fieldcloth, a Miniturised Field (De)Focuser, or even a Miniturised Solar Panel (lighter but not smaller).

Bionic Organs: substitute for any organ, bar the upper brain and eyes, and are composed of a mixture of living and non-living parts. Life Theory I is required. These are very reliable and have triple-redundancy; they will not break-down unless very severely damaged, which is assumed not to happen while characters are no more than half their CON negative, and not normally then. They include suitable interfaces between living and non-living parts, and may normally be considered to be twice as efficient as natural organs. A second organ may be built for +50% time and cost. Note the bionic equivalent of the upper brain is a Pattern Synthesiser, and eyes Robot Eyes; a Biocoder would be used to interface these to living parts. Having Bionic Organs, particularly heart and lungs, gives an effective +5 CON for the purpose of System Shock rolls, and being at least 70% bionic increases safe Sus An times by x13; also note use of Sus An Buffer Drug Glands. The non-living parts usually draw their energy to operate from the living parts, i.e. ultimately food and air, but if this is not practical require no more than 1ep/turn for full use. Body Interface: refers to the mind-body interface in bodies which are a mixture of living and non-living parts. If a body and mind are in essence in a non-living body, for example a mind in a Pattern Synthesiser in a Robot Frame body, even with a living skin such as an Android Robot Frame, then the mind-body interface and any reflexes involved in it are assumed to be handled by the Pattern Synthesiser, and whatever Coders it interfaces to the Frame with. If the body is to a considerable extent living, a Bionic Brain, or the brain is organic but the body is not, a Bionic Body, then it may be necessary to consider how the reflexes in the two parts interact. An organic brain with a complete lower brain and a spinal cord is considered to have a full Reflex Pattern ready to connect to a Biocoder. However a Bionic Brain, or an organic brain without a complete lower brain and spinal cord, requires a Reflex Pattern, which is stored in a Body Support Organ or Brain Support Organ as appropriate. A Reflex Pattern can be aquired from the body using a Medi Scanner, or one of the standard available Robot Frame ones which match the body can be used, as appropriate.

Body Support Organ: is one special variety of Bionic Organ. Life Theory I is required. This substitutes for the lower functions of the brain in regulating things such as breathing, heart beat, and sleep, and includes substituting for any glands within the brain, thus allowing a Pattern Synthesiser to substitute for the higher brain functions (see Bionic Brain). Requires a Reflex Pattern (see "Information Devices"), to match the Interface Pattern in the Pattern Synthesiser, during construction, see Body Interface. Uses: none. Weight: 1gp.

Bionic Brain: is another name for a Pattern Synthesiser and, with the addition of a Body Support Organ, and two Biocoders (one for sight and one for the rest of the body), which are connected through the Body Support Organ, could substitute for the entire upper brain in an otherwise organic body. Bionic Body: is a general name for when some parts of the body, but not the brain, have been replaced by bionic parts, such as Bionic Limbs or Bionic Organs. In the most extreme case only the organic brain is left, surviving using a Brain Support Organ (Bio Support). This could be housed in an Android Robot Frame which it interfaces to using a Biocoder, and see through Robot Eyes using a second Biocoder, connected through the Brain Support Organ. Energy to support the brain is usually drawn from the robot body or whatever, though an emergency power pack (or a Micro Life Tap) might be fitted. Weight: as standard. Uses: see above.

Bio Support: supports a living organ or device, such as a Bio Device, by substituting for the heart and lungs etc, and is a Bionic Organ. Life Theory I is required to build, but does not give an understanding of its operation. In a system, such as a fully Bionic Body, where the brain is the only living organ, is called a Brain Support Organ, and requires the Reflex Pattern for the body to match the Interface Pattern in the brain during construction, see Body Interface. Note that though this recycles a lot it will need occasional supplies, for example from a Bionic Stomach or a Food Synthesiser. The efficient oxygen use means survival for 10mins without air is possible; emergency air supplies last 10x as long as normal. It can also put the living organ or device into a coma-like trance so that requirements for air, water, and food are reduced by a further x1/13. May also act as a Bio Interface for +50% time and cost, or two only one of which receives support for +100% time and cost, enabling the supported organ to be easily (dis)connected to other living or otherwise parts. For active organs more than 20gpwt each +1L supports x8 weight, but uses more power. Alternatively a Lesser Bio support could be used, as long as the reduced reliabity can be tolerated. Note that this device is already unreasonably miniturised, and makes use of strange aspects of Reality Theory II and Psionic Theory II. Uses: 1ep/turn, x2/extra L. Mould Support System: provides all the support facilities required for a (Lesser/Fast) Android Mould in terms of android nutrient, air, and water. Biological Theory I is required. Normally connected to an Organic Synthesiser which produces the good quality simple organic materials it needs for input (otherwise costs 400gp/Mould/mnth (Lesser- 700gp/yr, Fast- 120gp/50hrs)), at +1L acts as an Organic Synthesiser for this purpose. Note that air and water is very efficiently recycled (about as an Air Regenerator II), and android nutrient is made as a Medical Synthesiser I, but one restricted to one thing at a time, maximum L=2, without a preservation capability, and only capable of 'nutrient. Is capable of supporting multiple 'Moulds, with a maximum of 1 Fast, 13 standard, or 52 Lesser (this does not increase with higher L). A version which can only support a single standard Mould (4 Lesser) may be built, a Lesser Mould Support System, which uses a tenth power and is a tenth weight, but is the same L. Also note that 90% of the 'System's weight is synthesis chamber and shielding coils. No program is required. Medical Synthesiser: produces various Palliatives (for a Medi Kit) or biological substances up to the complexity of Culture (for Android Moulds/Auto Docs) from good quality simple organic materials. Life Theory II is required to build, and Biological Theory II (Life Theory I to make living things) is required to operate, this. There is no cost to make Palliatives or Cultures if 'fed' by a Organic Synthesiser/Catalysis Generator. A suitable scan is required for each Palliative or Culture, for example from a Recorder; an Organic Scanner/Medi Scanner may be used to acquire new scans. Three different things may be being synthesised at once (+2/extra L). A Medical Synthesiser may function as a Food Synthesiser of the same L (e.g. M.S.I as F.S.III, but the food and drink is totally indistinguishable from natural food), and acts as a Medi Scanner of -2L. Indefinate safe preservation of 10 synthesised items (x10/extra L) is possible, this uses 1/10 power if nothing is being synthesised. Medical Synthesiser Control program is required. Uses: 10ep/turn, preservation only- 1ep/turn. Weight: 10,000gp.

Palliatives: are various highly concentrated potions with medical effect, normally made by a Medical Synthesiser. They are given an equivalent device level and include as 1st level: healing, block pain, sleep, contraceptive; 2nd level: extra-healing, neutralise (specific) drug, remove infection, wake, neutralise contraceptive, sus an buffer; 3rd level: super-healing, neutralise paralysis, remove exhaustion, neutralise (specific) poison, cure (specific) disease, anti (specific) shock; 4th level: total healing, neutralise poison, cure disease, anti shock; 5th level: minor regeneration, cure all burns, cure (specific) addiction; 6th level: regeneration, body regeneration (specific), restore life, longevity, cure addiction, cure (specific) insanity; 7th level: major regeneration, body regeneration, delay aging, cure insanity; 8th level: full restore life, reverse aging, restore energy; 9th level: youth/maturity. Palliatives take a day/L and cost 200gp/L to make (e.g. 3 days and 600gp if L=3), maximum -3L of 'Synthesiser. A special form of palliative is android nutrient which counts as L=2 giving enough for an Android Mould for a month (Lesser- about 3 3/4 months, Fast- about 7 days). The normal price of palliatives is 500gp/L (e.g. 1000gp for android nutrient). Uses: none. Weight: negligable.

Culture: is unformed living flesh, normally made by a Medical Synthesiser. There are two forms: Undifferentiated Culture which is used to grow any form of Android in an Android Mould and is not specific to any creature, and Specific Culture which is made from a specific person's Body Pattern and is used to replace lost tissue of any form in an Auto Doc. Both forms of Culture take one day and cost 1000gp to make 100gpwt. Culture does not have a L, if forced to it could be called L=4. Techs are very careful who they distribute Undifferentiated Culture to, as once a sample is obtained an Android Mould can be used to grow as much as is required. Uses: none. Weight: 100gp.

Life Mover: moves the life-force from one, generally dying, body to another empty compatible one. Life Theory II is required. For simplicity the new body is usually programmed with the personality of the old one beforehand, otherwise it will take time for the memory to become clear. This is one way of moving into a body grown in an Android Mould and programmed with your mind, or a suitably programmed, but not yet activated, Pattern Synthesiser (etc). The transfer takes a turn, unless the old body is placed in stasis, suspended animation of some kind, or dies, when it is instant. A full personality scan of the person to be moved must be available in a Macro Computer (could be split across several). The new form will function with the original INT and WIS, CHAR as modified by the new appearance, all skills, and at full level; an android body will even have the same HP if greater than those gained as standard. Given a Life Mover Remote (100gpwt, effective 5th level, could be (micro) miniturised) using 1ep/round a remote transfer can take place at almost any range via a continuously running Portal Generator which uses the Remote for a 'fix' (uses 1ep/turn), the 'Mover and the Remote both need 100ep and the Remote is destroyed. Sometimes desperate people have managed the jump to the new body even without this device, DMs must judge this chance based on circumstances. Really desperate Techs have sometimes managed to jury-rig a Life Mover using a Reality Generator, or even a heavily modified Mind Interface. Uses: 200ep/exchange. Range: touch (+1"/extra L). Intrinsic Bio Circuitry: as Bio Circuitry but only devices of -4L. Life Theory II is required. Similar to Holographic Circuitry in that the devices take up no obvious space. The creature they are to be implanted in must be present throughout the construction (usually in an Android Mould or Auto Doc) and the Implanted Circuitry used must be done in parallel. For +3500gp an Intrinsic Bio Tap may be included, similar to Bio Tap in Bio Circuitry. Intrinsic Bio Circuitry will normally be inherited and will appear to have been part of the creatures body from birth; it can usually be detected only by comparative Body Pattern scans or similar spells. If it is inherited then it will only be under unconscious control until, for example, the creature is physically mature, or there is an activating key event, or are trained in its use; one or more of these chosen in construction. Generally it makes no difference which parent inheritence is from, but where a Cache is involved then only the Cache Manager or Cache Key would be gained from the paternal line, the new Cache budding from the mother's existing one (generally while in the womb) if from the maternal line. Personal Auto Doc: a specialised version of Auto Doc which will only function for one person chosen in construction. Life Generator Remote: see Life Generator. One of these may be constructed in parallel with a 'Generator, at -2L on the 'Generator, and optionally gives access to the controls of the 'Generator from anywhere. Its main use is to continue to pour energy into something which cannot independently sustain life, with the 'Remote needing 10ep/round (best from Similar Crystals II, note trickle charge via Transformer Crystal), 1ep/round is all that is needed if only remote control is required. Multiple 'Remotes may be built and tuned but only one may be the 'master' remote control at any one time; if the master becomes untuned the first alternative which tries to become master succeeds. A Life Generator may have as a base one sustaining 'Remote, +2/extra L, the 'Remotes may go any distance away from the 'Generator but a Portal Block which would cut off a Portal Generator -1L that of the 'Generator will cut one off; reconnection requires returning to the 'Generator (and uses 100ep). Multi Pattern Associator: acts as several Pattern Synthesisers of +1L. Computer Theory II is required, and Life Theory I is required to understand how it works; also known as a Multi Personality Store. A (Macro) Computer with Artificial Intelligence program is not required, but otherwise functions as a Pattern Associator. Must be pre-programmed as a Pattern Associator with at least one 'personality'. Unlike a Pattern Associator there is room in this for three persona, +2/extra L, which may be added by programming later, or developed internally if a majority of the existing persona agree to this (and no external 'lock' has been set up to prevent this), without any external programming, but taking the same time. Developed persona typically are based on those of the existing persona. In addition a single environment may be programmed, as if a persona, within which the persona may interact (this could also be developed internally), which is the equivalent of a Pocket Universe, where the persona are the only living things of above reflex level intelligence. Within this environment the persona each typically have an Interaction Form, and a Mind Interface II (preferably III) could be used to allow external minds to interact with the environment. Note that there are still only the interfaces suitable to control a single external body, and there is generally one of the persona connected to this as the master controller, though they could all be allowed equivalent control, and all can use the senses or not as desired. Auto Doc: generates a field which can act as a complete medical repair system; a relative of Android Mould. Life Theory II is required to construct, and Biological Theory II is required to use, this. Acts as a Sterile Field, Tissue Welder, Cos Mod, Medi Kit, and even Body Cleanser, of equal L and also acts as a Medi Scanner, Implanted Circuitry, Implanted Prosthetics, Drug Glands, and Bio Circuitry of -2L; at +1L is as Intrinsic Drug Glands and Intrinsic Bio Circuitry of -2L. Can do anything an Auto Surgeon could do but better, except make use of or act as a Fast Tissue Welder. Works best with an attached Medical Synthesiser. Functions in a similar way to an Android Mould III with a height limit of 29'6" (x2/extra L) and a weight limit of 21,164lbs (x8/extra L). Can hold a patient in suspended animation while manufacturing replacement parts. Functions much faster with a scan (Medi Scanner) of a healthy creature of the same species, an (uninjured) scan of the patient allows seam-less repairs. Could be used for body alteration using Scan Designer program and a scan of the patient. An Auto Doc is useless if there is no residue of life about the body (for example killed with FOD). Can correct the problems of androids grown in a Lesser Android Mould taking 1 day/original HD and giving them full lifespan and fertility; removing any skin dye is trivial. Indefinite safe suspended animation without repair, or at 1/13 normal rate, is possible at 1/10 power. See Repaired Bodies, and see Modified Bodies. Requires the use of Auto Doc Control program. Repaired Bodies: includes simple physical damage, or less than major blood loss, repaired at 1HP/round, lost parts require the time for the 'Synthesiser to make that weight of specific Culture plus approx. 14mins/1gpwt. Alternatively prepared and stored spare parts for a specific person (either in the Auto Doc or a separate Sus An unit), consisting of anything short of the brain, could be used. Those being repaired may be unconscious, or conscious with no feelings of pain, as required. Full repair is possible up to 10mins after death, up to an hour is possible but brain damage occurs, lost brain tissue can be replaced but there may be memory loss or personality changes without an up-to-date Personality Pattern (but this needs an add-on Mind Programmer III with improved programming 3). Dead bodies may be preserved indefinitely, and any damage repaired if desired.

Modified Bodies: includes a very wide range of modification to the body, to modify the mind needs something like a Mind Programmer. All the basic tricks described in Hair and Skin Cosmods are practical, as is the addition of things like a functional, prehensile, tail, retractable claws, extra transparent eyelids, and other enhancements; various devices could be implanted, and bionic replacements made for lost or damaged limbs or organs. Standard interlocks in the Auto Doc and its control program make it very difficult to remove capabilities (such as to cause blindness, or (partial) paralysis), and impossible to use for torture. For guidance look at the various devices an Auto Doc can act as, and details of their use, such as Bio Devices. At the limits a creature could in theory be altered into anything else living that could be grown with an Android Mould of equal L (as long as this does not remove capabilities), but some shapes will not allow the mind to effectively use the body. There will be problems if new skills are required to operate the new body, such as flying, swimming, or making effective use of exotic senses; an Educator could help with this. Note that all modification work is usually done by taking a Body Scan and using the Scan Designer program, before any changes are made. Modifications may be hereditary or not as required.

Macro Androids: are fully living creatures and are almost indistinguishable from normal creatures unless Detect Age or similar is used. They will have extraordinary powers if they are of at least the hit dice of the original, e.g. only hit by silver/magic, lycanthropy, magic, breath weapons, and body powers such as regeneration and poison; note that only living (but not necessarily natural) creatures may be grown. Note also that to have more than 50HP/10HD the android must normally be larger than human size, unless it is a direct copy of something, or a very clever design. Note that sufficiently large Macro Androids can use the Vehicle Volume and Vehicle Passengers rules in "Mechanical Devices" for spare space inside them, to use them as space craft it is advised to give them air-tight skins. Macro Androids may be designed so they grow after decanting, to a limit of +two fifths HD, x2 Ht, and x8 Wt, this taking at least three years for safety, and a minimum of three months if you don't care about the health of the android (cancers, heart failure, and immune system failure are typical problems). They may be designed so that they grow indefinitely (gaining extra HD), each +two fifths HD, x2 Ht, and x8 Wt should take at least forty years for safety, and a minimum of three years unsafely, and careful design will probably be needed to handle the increased size.

Fast Android Mould: a far quicker version of Android Mould (13x). Life Theory II is required to build this, and Biological Theory I and Programming I to make full use of it. Also functions as a Medi Scanner and an Android Programmer of -2L. Androids may be grown with each 5HP/1HD taking approx. two days (50hrs; this is the minimum time), and with nutrients costing 300gp/50hrs, otherwise limits are as an Android Mould of -2L. Growth may be suspended indefinitely or allowed to continue at 1/13 normal rate (1 month/HD) using only a tenth power. Creatures may be held in safe suspended animation indefinitely after growth has finished with no further need for nutrients, but if their minds are still being programmed nutrients cost 20gp/50hrs. A version of this may be build at -1L (with the Medi Scanner, but without the Android Programmer, function) which functions as a very quick Lesser Android Mould for Lesser Androids (50hrs/HD), but the R/MM roll (at -25%) and the system shock roll may be made without any special monitoring. Personality Processor: is a complex computer system which acts as a Pattern Synthesiser with a 6th Gen robot intelligence. Computer Theory III is required, and Life Theory I is required to understand how it works. This is effectively an array of Macro Computers and Macro Storage with the Personality Emulation program hardwired into it. Unlike a Pattern Synthesiser the robot intelligence in this can be changed simply by reloading the persona, but to get any form of creative work or initiative from it it should be run over an extended period. If additional Macro Computers and Macro Storage of equal L are added, and there is a suitably encouraging environment, then may develop into 7th Gen over time (typically years). If this happens then, given sufficient capacity, sub processes may be run which act as more restricted 5th or 6th Gen robot intelligences, and the experiences of these independent personas recombined when convenient. There is a version of this called a Lesser Personality Processor which acts as 5th Gen, which might be developed into 6th Gen and run 5th Gen sub processes, but not may not develop into 7th Gen. At +1L there is a version which uses Field Processor rather than Computer technology (also requiring Multi-Planar Theory II), a Greater Personality Processor, but is still 6th Gen, however uses less power, weighs less, and can be micro miniturised. Some Techs consider this device to be unethical, as there is some argument over whether it is 'alive', and has a spirit, and if so what happens to that life and spirit if you shut it down and/or reprogram it. There is no need for the Pattern Synthesiser Programming program. Cost: standard x2, lesser- standard, greater- standard x3. Uses: 120ep/turn, lesser- 80ep/turn, greater- 16ep/turn. Personality Evoker: causes a passive stored personality to become a fully active living personality. Life Theory II is required. This personality must be in something like a Personality Crystal (or Micro ~ or ~ Flake) or Personality Storage (see "Computer Devices"), but attempts to directly alter the personality information after initial activation will cause death, unless the alterations are done by something like a (Robot) Mind Programmer. Any complexity of personality with any stats may be used, but once a Personality Evoker is used on a personality it may be used on no other; note that the Robot Mind restrictions do not apply. A Personality Evoker will only work within a living environment, which it must not share with another mind, an Android Robot Frame with a living skin is ideal for this, and this might be regarded as the ultimate form of cyborg replacement (none of the original living body and a cloned skin). The stored personality is frequently updated, but a sudden power loss might loose several minutes (short term) memory. An evoked personality has a life aura (and a spirit), and will not be directly effected by death magic, control magic which works through a fleshy body and brain will not work, and if desired DMs may give a general +4 saving throw to control. If the living environment dies or the power supply is cut then the mind becomes dormant after 3+D4 rounds, and the spirit is allowed to hang around as long as the 'Evoker is still connected to the store, if they are disconnected use the rules in Trauma Recorder (see "Biological Devices"). If for some reason no spirit can or is willing to be associated with an 'Evoker it will not work. A Micro Life Tap would make a good emergency power supply. Interfacing senses etc to this is done as a Pattern Synthesiser, and generally treat this as a Pattern Synthesiser III+. Uses: 1ep/turn. Weight: 10gp.

Three different things may be being synthesised at once (+2/extra L). May function as a Food Synthesiser of -2L taking approx. 5secs, and acts as a Medi Scanner of -4L. Life Generator: uses incredibly powerful energy fields to kindle life in dead matter, usually summoning a spirit/soul and binding it in the same process. Life Theory III is required. This may be used to restore life to those killed by FOD or similar, an Auto Doc can then repair any other damage; no survival roll is required. As an alternative life may be sustained in a living creature no matter how damaged it is, and the damage will not get worse. If the material the life is kindled in cannot sustain it then it will fade in a turn, or less if it has never been living, unless a Life Generator Remote (100gpwt, effective 7th, could be (micro) miniturised) is used to continue to pour energy into it at 100ep/round, with the Remote needing 10ep/round (best from Similar Crystals II, note trickle charge via Transformer Crystal). A Life Generator may have as a base one Remote, +2/extra L, the Remotes may go any distance away from the Generator but a Portal Block which would cut off a Portal Generator -1L that of the Generator will cut one off; reconnection requires returning to the Generator. Inanimate material animated by these means can move using any joints it has with no further power input, understand speech and surface thought by a form of telepathy and sense life force range 3" similar to undead; its motivation and intelligence varies depending on the spirit/soul bound into it. It may have other senses, capabilities, or speech depending on its material form, for example a (otherwise empty) robot frame with Robot Eyes and a Loudspeaker voice.
