Explanation of Information Devices or Data
Gesture Template: (Cant) a set of gestures particular to one individual which consists of a series of single body movements, or combinations of movements; complex hand movements, nods, shrugs, winks and even twitches are possible. In most cases there is a standard template which has to be modified for an individual, and to which they can add gestures unique to them. Each gesture has a unique (within the template) identifier stored with it. A 'Qwerty' keyboard layout with 'Home' keys is one standard template, and is the standard way Techs input text into systems. Often generated by the Gesture Analysis program in conjunction with a Gesture Scanner. As a rule kept in groups of at least 10, and 10 occupies about 1MC. Size: 1MC.
Level: 2nd.
Machine Pattern: (Blueprint) is the complete specifications for a machine to be used, usually for comparison with an Energy Probe or Multi Scanner scan, to help determine faults. If the machine worked on is precisely the same this gives automatic Understand Machine, else modifiers (possibly negative if concealed differences). The pattern may be stored in a Recorder rather than Storage if desired as fast access is not required, and usually comes from a Machine Scanner, and includes a range of standard annotations. Note that Machine Patterns include a security code, which can incorporate time information. This makes it difficult to tamper with them without completely disassembly using something like the Sensor Interpretation program, and reassembly using a specially modified Machine Scanner. In preferance Machine Patterns are created by the Machine Pattern Extraction program, but they can also be constructed far more 'manually', using a Machine Scanner and following the annotation protocol. Size: 4MC+.
Level: 3rd.
Food Pattern: (Recipe) is 5/2MC, larger for exotic food; even bones may be made. Simple organic containers and utensils (wood/bone) may be one pattern. A Organic Scanner may be used to acquire new patterns, and the Scan or Organic Designer programs may be used to modify existing or design new patterns. As a rule kept in groups of at least 5 patterns. A number of Food Patterns are given away free with Recipe Designer. Size: 2MC.
Level: 4th.
Body Pattern: (Shape) is 1MC, larger for exotic creatures to a maximum of 5MC. A base 10 rounds and a Medi Scanner is required to record one. Sometimes called a Body Scan. There are a number of standard body templates, such as 'Adult Human Male/Female, Average Height and Build', from which details like eye, hair and skin colour, and facial structure, can be easily changed by Scan Designer. Human-sized bodies (standard between 5' and 80lb to 7'6" and 330lb) rarely have more than 17 STR and CON (-5 Max/half Wt, +1 Max/x2 Wt), careful design can shift these limits up or down one equivalent weight doubling. The comeliness/beauty of the body may be easily varied, the default is 15; DMs might allow a maximum of 1 per 5% R/MM possessed by the designer (e.g. maximum 16 with 80% R/MM). With a little care most humanoids between 3'9" and 7'6" without any extraordinary powers can be adapted using Scan Designer from the standard human templates. The patterns are so small because they record differences from a standard rather than the whole pattern. The standard they are based on is 10MC (see Standard Body Pattern) and is hard-wired into Medi Scanners, and built into Scan Designer. Body Patterns for humans, almost all humanoids, all higher mammals, and these with any Cos Mod, and almost any injury or other medical problem, will fit in the basic 1MC, as will very simple (e.g. single cell) organisms. These include Android Robot Skin. Where a Body Pattern may be used a Full Body Pattern is almost certainly usable. The standard shapes Basic Body, Standard Body, and Superior Body (and several animal shapes) are given away free with the Scan Designer program, see these for further details. Size: 1MC+.
Level: 4th.
Body Scan: (Shape) see Body Pattern.
Level: 4th.
Basic Body: is a highly standardised Body Pattern for a (male and female) human suitable for an Android Mould I. Is not exceptional in any way, and has a basic STR and CON of up to 13 (8+D5), and DEX of 11, better (up to 17, and 16 DEX) could probably be managed with careful design, DEX is particularly difficult. Note that the DEX should match that of the Interface Pattern of the persona. Size: 1MC.
Level: 4th.
Standard Body Pattern: (Standard Shape) is the base-line pattern from which all Body Patterns (or Shapes) are measured and is hard-wired into Medi Scanners, and built into the Scan Designer program. It is freely available to anyone for the asking, partly to avoid anyone trying to develop their own version. If were dealing with many very exotic creatures (e.g. 4-dimensional methane breathers) it might be worth designing a standard shape for them, but many of the standard shape-handling programs, particularly Scan Designer, would then need modification. Size: 10MC.
Level: 4th.
Full Body Pattern: (Full Shape) is a Standard Body Pattern with the changes made to it which would normally be recorded as a Body Pattern. Full Body Patterns are generated internally and used by various devices, but normally only a Body Pattern is stored externally. A Full Body Pattern can be used almost anywhere a Body Pattern would be, as devices and programs can recognise that they do not need to re-generate one from their stored internal Standard Body Pattern, and may use it directly. The size varies from 10MC to 13MC for the most exotic creatures, assuming 12MC is safe for almost anything. See Body Pattern and see Standard Body Pattern. Size: 12MC.
Level: 4th.
Reflex Pattern: (Reflexes) is an complete set of physical reflexes for a body which is typically extracted from a Body Pattern using Scan (or Organic) Designer to be used in a Reflex Accelerator (etc). It is larger than a Body Pattern because it stands alone without the standard pattern and is not very compressed; it also fits neatly in a Reflex Processor III. Note that the DEX should match that of the Interface Pattern of the persona for the integrated mind-body to function correctly. There are a standard set of Reflexes for Robot Frames giving DEX 11 which are freely available to those with Biological Theory (they are normally only used when you mix in living parts); redesigned Robot Frames with higher DEX used as Bionic Bodies will also require redesigned Reflexes. Size: 4MC.
Level: 4th.
Interface Pattern: (Interface) takes the form of a truncated persona typically used for fast re-tuning of Mind Interfaces, or needed to use a Mind Amplifier (etc). The pattern is a tenth of the size of the full persona and it consists of the mental equivalent of reflexes and response patterns; it is the mind-body interface. They are also used in assembling personas from templates and how well they fit the body governs the body's DEX; assume 11 is standard. A standard set giving 11, 12, and 13 DEX (equivalent to Basic, Standard and Superior Body) is given away free with the (Simple) Personality Constructor program. The DEX that this provides should match the DEX of the Reflex Pattern or the complete Body Pattern for the integrated mind-body to function correctly. Size: 10MC+.
Level: 4th.
Disintegrator Setting: (Structure) is the information required to tune a Disintegrator so it may reduce an object of a specific substance to very fine dust. This is related to Matter Patterns. New settings may be recorded using a Disintegrator and Disintegrator Tuner, existing settings in the 'Tuner may be stored in one turn, a setting which is in the Disintegrator in two turns, and a new setting from scratch in a game turn plus two turns. Size: 10MC.
Level: 5th.
Medical Pattern: (Preparation/Culture) is required for each Palliative or Culture, size 5/2MC, complex patterns might be larger. A Organic Scanner/Medi Scanner may be used to acquire new patterns, and Scan or Organic Designer may be used to modify existing or design new patterns. As a rule kept in groups of at least 5 patterns. A number of Food and Medical Patterns are given away free with Organic Designer. Size: 2MC.
Level: 5th.
Thought Patterns: (Lessons) may be stored 1hr/2 MC for use by an Educator. Consists of knowledge of skills and the experiences of the 'teacher' in gaining them. Similar to Dream Patterns, but more abstract, and usually only include the senses of sight and sound. For more physical skills including a sense of touch, balance, and movement Dream Patterns are probably more appropriate. Thought Patterns are similar in basic size and content to Persona Skills, but they are organised differently in a form suitable for teaching human-like minds, rather than constructing personas. Most skills take a week to compile per (1000x compressed) MC and require someone skilled in teaching to be involved. They may be edited using Thought Designer (or Personality Designer). Size: 2MC+.
Level: 5th.
Dream Patterns: (Dreams) may be stored 1hr/20 MC for use in a Dreamer. Dreams are full colour and include all the senses, they almost always involve a moving viewpoint and may or may not include a visible body for the dreamer; dreams without a body are more like Thought Patterns and are sometimes called Observer Dreams. Whether the dream is interactive with a course partly or totally controlled by the dreamer, or with decision points, depends on the support programs (Dream Programming/Management) used. Dreams may be edited using Dream Designer (or Personality Designer). Size: 20MC+.
Level: 5th.
Memories: are a close relative of Dream Patterns, or in the more abstract Thought Patterns, and are an actual record of an individual's memories. They may be manipulated as both of these, but due to the massive storage they take up, even though compressed a thousand-fold (about 1MC/3 days, 760MC/yr), are rarely stored except as part of a Persona. Size: 1MC+.
Level: 5th.
Personality Pattern: (Persona) is a stored 'holographic' personality image, either constructed by the Personality Designer program or the like, or recorded. Maximum skill level when programmed is limited by the mark of Android Mould/Pattern Synthesiser (etc), a basic experience level of 5th level is gained, +2 per +1L (excess levels will mean quicker learning, probably up to x2). A Personality Recorder or a Mind Probe/Programmer with Improved Probing 1+ and 6hrs will usually be needed to record a persona, an existing recorded persona may be updated taking a game turn per month. Animal persona will be smaller, usually 25-100MC, but take as long to record. A Persona is composed of a Persona Template (see below for some simple ones) which forms the motivational core, Persona Skill(s) which provide the capabilities, an Interface which is the mind-body interface, and possibly Memories which are the persona's history. If built using (Simple) Personality Constructor program then has a number of (non-weapon) proficiency slots based on INT and persona complexity for Persona Skills (HD is irrelevant). See Simple Persona, Standard Persona, Complex Persona, and Very Complex Persona (and the animal equivalents) for further details. Size: 25MC+.
Level: 5th+.
Simple Persona: see Personality Pattern. Simple persona have less than 9 INT, WIS, and CHAR (3+D5), any physical skills, simple mental skills and no background. If constructed rather than designed has INT+1 proficiency slots. This is called 5th Gen or First in a robot, and Gamma in an android. Size: 100MC.
Level: 5th.
Simple Animal Persona: see Personality Pattern. Simple animal persona have less than 5 INT, WIS, and CHAR (1+D3), simple physical skills, no mental skills and no background. An improved Drone Mind, see "Life Devices", would be one example of this. If constructed rather than designed has INT+1 proficiency slots. Size: 25MC.
Level: 5th.
Standard Animal Persona: see Personality Pattern. Standard animal persona have less than 7 INT, WIS, and CHAR (3+D3), any physical skills, very simple mental skills and a simple background. If constructed rather than designed has INT+2 proficiency slots. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Complex Animal Persona: see Personality Pattern. Complex animal persona have up to 9 INT, WIS, and CHAR (5+D3), any physical skills, simple mental skills and a full background. If constructed rather than designed has INT+3 proficiency slots. Size: 100MC.
Level: 5th.
Very Complex Animal Persona: see Personality Pattern. Very complex animal persona are Complex Animal Persona which have a great depth of experience and very extensive backgrounds. They are normally only obtained by scanning a very experienced animal. Size: 125MC.
Level: 5th.
5th Gen: (G5) robot intelligence has a basic intelligence potential as a very clever animal or a 4-8 (3+D5) intelligence human. Initially it knows only about its basic purpose and tasks. Needs Pattern Synthesiser Programming to set up in a 'Synthesiser (etc). Does not need any associated Recognition, Synthesis, or Control program except for special devices, such as Energy Probe, or for control of other robots. Also known as Simple Persona or First. Size: 100MC.
Level: 5th.
Personality Analysis Pattern: is a stored pattern of analysis followed by Personality Analysis program in analysing a particular persona. These are used in reducing the time required to do an analysis by x100 when analysing a very similar persona (e.g. an earlier scan) and are generally 5-80MC, a fifth of the size of the persona. There are standard analysis patterns for all the standard persona templates, size 5MC each. Size: 5MC+.
Level: 5th+.
Persona Template: (Role) there are a number of templates that have been built-up for use either as simple persona, as the basis for standard persona design, or as a component of a complex persona. These are named, based on the functions of the simple persona, as Worker, Domestic, Guard, Warrior, Supervisor and Technic. There are others (e.g. Companion, or Fanatic) but these may have even more than the usual associated ethical problems and are not available on the 'standard' lists. All are willing to follow instructions or orders and are quite stable. They form the motivational core of the personality and various required skills, an interface pattern, and possibly some background, is added. A persona built purely around a single Template has a low CHAR (3+D5) but more is acquired with experience and contact with people, say +1/yr or level to a maximum of +4. The standard Worker Template is given away free with the (Simple) Personality Constructor program. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Aspect: is a combined full personal name and Persona Template, which is generally equivalent to at least a Complex Template for most developed persona. This will uniquely identify the essence of almost any being, which has had even a minimum of active existance, and is half the size of the full persona. Composing an Aspect from a Persona Template does not require any special programs, but an Aspect is considered a partial persona for the purpose of extracting a Persona Template back out of one. The personal name includes the full ancestral line. Some refer to Aspects as 'true names', as they include a being's motivational core. Size: 50-200MC.
Level: 5th.
Aspect Communications: is where a Mindcoder uses Aspects to form the basis of a highly effective public/private key encryption system. The Aspect can be used to decode information which could only have been encrypted using a Mindcoder and an active (i.e. living) version of the original Persona, and the Persona used as the only means of decoding information which was encrypted with the Aspect. Standard double encoding with the originator's Persona, and the target's Aspect, to provide a signature, is possible. If the Aspect changes, due to a fundamental shift in motivations, then a new one must be distributed.
Level: -.
Worker Template: is a persona intended for mainly physical labour with little contact with others and tends to pay more attention to things than people. It is interested in doing a job well, has great patience, and can work well without supervision. It is not very communicative and is initially hopeless at supervision. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Domestic Template: is a persona intended for a mixture of physical labour and contact with others and tends to get worried if too many things go wrong. It is dedicated to doing its job well and is proud to work where and for who it does. It communicates reasonably well about its work but initially needs some supervision to work well. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Guard Template: is a persona intended to be alert, and to some extent suspicious, and tends to get rather jumpy under pressure. It is dedicated to guarding its instructed place or person and puts this above its own welfare, it does not like too much change around it. Not very communicative but can work well without supervision. Is prepared for, but will avoid if practical, combat. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Warrior Template: is a persona intended for combat and is prepared for this at all times. Not very communicative and really needs some supervision. Will do guard work but not very well, initially prepared to die without a moments thought. Also interested in looking good and will devote any spare time to appearing smart and neat, fond of acclaim, dislikes criticism. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Apprentice Template: is a persona intended to learn (further) work skills, which it will practice until perfected. It is very observant, has great respect for its teacher, and a great willingness to learn. Requires supervision unless it is working at things it has mastered. For technical work really requires the INT of a standard rather than a simple persona. Works well as a component of a persona with other Templates, to give them a more general learning capacity (without this use fighter experience points for advancement, with this thief); this might be used alone as the basis of a child's persona. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Supervisor Template: is a persona intended for mainly supervising and managing others rather than physical work. It is good at keeping track of people and their aims and interests and communicates fluently about its work. Given time it will gain an encyclopedic knowledge of those it supervises and those it works for. It tends to be a little impatient but enjoys its work. Works best as a standard rather than a simple persona. Supervisors should have the skills of those they are supervising. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Technic Template: is a persona intended for technical work and tends to get involved with this to the exclusion of things around it. Not very communicative except about the technical details of its work, but can work quite well with minimum supervision. Given time can learn a little flexibility and creativity; probably the 'smartest' of the templates. Really needs the INT of a standard rather than a simple persona, though specialised skills can compensate for this. Size: 50MC.
Level: 5th.
Domesticated Animal: is a Persona Template intended for building Animal Persona from. This is customised by adding Persona Skills such as Hunting Animal, Riding Animal, Foraging Animal, and Pack (carrying) Animal, each of which are 1 slot and occupy 1MC, and a suitable version of Personal Survival. Note that though a Simple Animal Persona is also 25MC the nature of the construction process means one can be built from this template. Size: 25MC.
Level: 5th.
Persona Skill: (Skill) is a skill template used in constructing a persona and takes the form of compressed (1000x) Thought Patterns usually created by Skill Extraction. These can be treated as (non-)weapon proficiencies and some sample specialist ones might be Gardening, Childrearing, Cleaner, Bodyguard, Security Procedures, Gladiator, Technical Vocabulary; each are 1 slot and occupy 1MC. The various Tech skills might be used, though Research, Force Field, (Al)Chemical, and Magical Theory would not be normally; Teacher Technology is almost never used. Persona Skills can be 'persona locked', so that they are keyed to be only usable with a single complete persona, and not even that if major changes occur such as alignment reversal. The standard skills Personal Survival (with variations for the different types of animal), Spoken Common I-V, and Written Common are given away free with the Personality Contructor program. Size: 1MC+.
Level: 5th.
Personal Survival: is a standard skill which gives the basic social skills, such as 'table' manners, toilet training, use of clothing, (self) grooming, mating, and staying out of the weather. This is included in almost all constructed persona, though it may be varied for non-humans, and is considered a simple mental skill. For animals it might be considered a simple physical skill and only be 1MC or 2MC (1 or 2 slots). Size: 1-3MC.
Level: 5th.
Speech Reflexes: is a standard skill which gives the reflexes to speak most languages, but no actual vocabulary. This is useful to allow another to speak through, even though cannot speak oneself. This is a simple physical skill. Size: 1MC.
Level: 5th.
Spoken Common: is a standard skill which gives the ability to speak the Common tongue with about the equivalent of a 1000 word English vocabulary, sometimes called Spoken Common I. Taken a second time doubles the equivalent vocabulary, i.e. 2000 (2MC, Spoken Common II), 4000 (3MC, Spoken Common III), 8000 words (4MC, Spoken Common IV), and 16,000 words (5MC, Spoken Common V). Note it does not give the ability to read and write. This is considered to be a simple mental skill. For animals it might be only allowed to be taken once, and only give the ability to understand simple phrases (or even speak them, given suitable vocal apparatus). Size: 1MC+.
Level: 5th.
Written Common: is a standard skill which adds the ability to read and write Spoken Common with the same vocabulary as is spoken. This is considered to be a simple mental skill. Size: 1MC.
Level: 5th.
Spoken Language: is a standard skill which is the equivalent of Spoken Common but for a specific language, for example Unglas. Size: 1MC+.
Level: 5th.
Written Language: is a standard skill which is the equivalent of Written Common but for a specific language, for example Unglas. Size: 1MC.
Level: 5th.
Recognition Skill: is a specialised skill which is used in the recognition of one person. It is constructed from that person's Interface Pattern, Reflex Pattern, and their physical appearance so they may be recognised by how they act, how they move, and also by their appearance (which may include smell). It is only constructed using Personality Designer and takes about an hour. It uses one proficiency slot and is normally used with a persona template so they know a special person to take instructions from. This is considered to be a simple mental skill. Size: 1MC.
Level: 5th.
Standard Body: is a highly standardised Body Pattern for a (male and female) human suitable for an Android Mould II. Is strong and tough with a basic STR up to 18(01-50) (13+D5, D50 if 18), CON of up to 18 (13+D5), and DEX of 12, better (up to 18(00) STR, 19 CON, and 17 DEX) could probably be managed with careful design, DEX is particularly difficult. For these characteristics either an obviously strong and tough build is required, or structures not found in a normal human body are neccessary. Note that the DEX should match that of the Interface Pattern of the persona. Size: 1MC.
Level: 5th.
Ecology: is the pattern for an ecology of living creatures in a specific environment. This is in many respects similar to a body, the basic structure being the (cyclically changing) environment, fleshed out with the niches for the various living creatures, typically plant, animal and fungii down to a microscopic level, and completed with the experience or history of the ecology. Ecologies can have very definate lifespans, as a changing environment, and even changes made by the ecology itself, may exceed the ability of the ecology to adapt to them. This does not contain the actual specification of the creatures, just standardised references to them, but is concerned with the (changing) inter-relationships between them. There is a standard Terran Ecology which includes humans at the hunter-gatherer level of civilization. Techs tend not to talk about designing ecologies, because it can upset people. Size: 10MC.
Level: 5th.
Society: is the pattern for a society of living creatures in a specific ecology. The difference between a society and an ecology is in many ways the difference between an intelligent and an otherwise creature; there are far more complex structures and flows of information. The basis of the society is the basic organisation of the creatures as a herd/pack/swarm, modified by any heirarchy/specialisation. Societies are similar to a mind with a motivational core which is based on geography/religion/language/history, their interface to the ecology which is generally to do with their interaction with it in a far more complex way than creatures without a society, and various skills which take the form of technology such as advanced hunting techniques, herding or domesticating animals, cultivation of plants, building tailored environments such as houses, and tapping natural energy sources including magic. The information that makes up a society can be described in terms of laws/customs, advanced forms of communication such as language/literature, money/barter, and various other social mnemes. The history or infrastructure of the society includes the (social) environment, and changes to the environment such as ecological modifications like the elimination of predators, or building of roads. This does not include the actual specification of the creatures, their ecology or environment, or their skills, just standardised references to them, but is concerned with the (changing) inter-relationships between them. There is a standard Human Society which includes a medieval culture in a temperate terran climate minimally impacted by magic. Techs do not talk about designing societies, particularly the religious side of things, as assuming people believed them they would probably be lynched. Size: 10MC.
Level: 5th.
Economy: is the pattern for the economy within a society of creatures. The difference between an economy and a society is that the economic structures and flows may become so complex in their own right that they are worth considering separately. The basis of an economy is the organisation of the exchange of value of social activity, such as work on maintaining the society, either directly or indirectly in managing the information flows, development of the society, or entertainment. This can be directly in terms of barter, some agreed standard of value such as a rare material like gold, or promises or obligations for future activity. The history of an economy in terms of the re-valuation of promises or changes in the value of activities is quite important, as is the evaluation of future value such as loans. There is a standard simple Human Economy which is based on the standard Human Society using gold and other precious metals, with some use of promissory notes. Techs may be more willing to talk about designing economies than society design, particularly if people do not believe they can do it effectively. Size: 10MC.
Level: 5th.
Standard Persona: see Personality Pattern. Standard persona have less than 14 INT, WIS, and CHAR (8+D5), any skills and a simple background. If constructed rather than designed has INT+3 proficiency slots. This is called 6th Gen or Second in a robot, and Beta in an android. Size: 200MC.
Level: 6th.
6th Gen: (G6) robot intelligence is as a average intelligence human of 9-13 (8+D5), but with no understanding of emotion, and its development may be further constrained by initial programming. Otherwise as 5th Gen. Also known as Standard Persona or Second. Size: 200MC.
Level: 6th.
Complex Template: is a persona intended to switch between various behaviours and interests as appropriate to the situation around it. It is interested in people and changing situations, and is capable of clear communication and working with minimal supervision. It is not particularly dedicated to anything, though it likely to aquire at least one specialist interest, but given time and motivation can become as skillful as any of the specialist templates. May not be used in a simple persona. This is given away free with the Personality Constructor program. Size: 100MC.
Level: 6th.
Superior Body: is a highly standardised Body Pattern for a (male and female) human suitable for an Android Mould III. Is very strong and tough with a basic STR of up to 18(00) (17+D5 extrapolated STR), CON of up to 19 (17+D2), and DEX of 13, better (up to 26 extrapolated STR, CON 20, and 18 DEX) could probably be managed with careful design, DEX is particularly difficult. This STR of 18-26 is sometimes called Ogre Strength. See Extended Characteristics for details of extrapolated rather than AD&D STR. More than the standard structures found in a normal human body are neccessary to attain these sorts of characteristics in a body with anything vaguely resembling a normal build. Note that the DEX should match that of the Interface Pattern of the persona. Size: 1MC.
Level: 6th.
Matter Pattern: (Template) is a 'hyper-holographic' image of an object or an area taken using a Matter Scanner. Scans take up 10-100MC storage, regular structures least, complex (e.g. living) structures most; very large objects (such as large spaceships or small cities) can be up to 1000MC, large cities 5000MC, planets 10,000MC, solar systems 50,000MC, and anything 100,000MC. For a single person with all their equipment, even if it is independantly intelligent or includes familiars or such, 100MC will almost always be enough. Most single devices will be about 10MC (this is the minimum size). The scan contains all the details of the object, including programs and reflex patterns (sometimes called a Lesser Matter Pattern), and one from a Matter Scanner II+ will also include personalities, Non Material Objects, and magical structure. No known program exists that can modify or design a Matter Pattern for an object (except for 'slicing', see Matter Scanner Analysis), and the only devices which use them directly are the Integrator and its relatives. Size: 10MC+.
Level: 7th.
Lesser Matter Pattern: see Matter Pattern. Size: 10MC+.
Level: 7th.
Mental Matter Pattern: a restricted Matter Pattern which only contains personality information, but otherwise is equivalent to one from a Matter Scanner II+. Scans can be assumed to always be an arbitary 100MC; effectively a scan of a single person, 'sliced' so that it only contains personality information. These scans are typically processed by programs like Matter Scanner Analysis or Personality Extraction to extract a Personality Pattern; Lesser Matter Scanner Analysis will be of no use. A Mental Matter Pattern will not typically be of any use except to be analysed, except possibly as a compact and secure way of storing a persona. Size: 100MC.
Level: 7th.
Matter Analysis Pattern: is a stored pattern of analysis followed by Matter Scanner Analysis program in analysing a particular Matter Pattern. These are used in reducing the time required to do an analysis by x100 when analysing a very similar object (e.g. an earlier scan) and are generally 5-20MC, a fifth of the size of the Matter Pattern to a minimum of 5MC. Size: 5MC+.
Level: 7th.
Standard Reality Pattern: (Reality) is a Matter Pattern for a reality, and includes details such as the normal structure of time and space, entropy, gravity, life, magic, communication modes, information, and a default environment survivable to humans. If this reality was experienced then it would be a flat plane of grey stone stretching off indefinately and lit by a source-less light, similar to pre-dawn, the stone being indefinately thick, and the sky going on indefinately. The basic version (sometimes called a Lesser Standard Reality Pattern) is equivalant to a Lesser Matter Pattern and has no standards for personalities, Non Material Objects, or magic. This is the standard against which a Universal Constant Analyser measures, and the normal (not the lesser) version is hard-wired by rote into it. This is also used by a (Lesser) Reality Shield to check for changes in reality against. Minor variations on this include a reality where there are no physical needs (i.e. need not breathe, drink, eat, rest or sleep, and do not heal or age; 'limbo'), all beings are immortal (there is no aging, death is not possible, injuries recover almost immediately and there is no natural reproduction; the 'tooniverse'), there is no sense of time passing (this is not the lesser version), or thoughts cause immediate changes to reality (again not the lesser version); all the same size of 100MC. Size: 100MC.
