Environments

Environments are based around human requirements, but they might be re-designed for beings with different needs. An environment is made up of a breathable atmosphere, survivable temperature, a source of food and water and a means of disposing of sewage, light, sound, scents, textures, gravity, and safe radiation and energy field levels. It may also include variations in these to prevent stagnation. More fundamental things like physical dimensions, time and existance are considered part of reality, rather than the environment which exists within reality. More detailed things like communication, transportation, and even education and entertainment, are treated elsewhere, though Environmental Devices may be the means by which these are understood.

Environmental (Al)Chemistry

This is phrased in terms of Earthly chemistry, which many fantasy worlds use in default of anything else. For example obtaining supplies of high-purity ammonium nitrate and carbon for an Air Regenerator requires a lot of (al)chemical infrastructure (or a lot of organic material - fish guts, as found in great quantity in any fishing port, are good). Environments that don't use Earthly chemistry (e.g. Aristotelian philosophy where the basic elements are Earth, Air, Fire and Water, or Paracelsusian chemistry, where the fundamentals are mercury, sulphur and salt) need to be handled differently. In some of them the only (non-magical) way to store air is to compress it, or to use something like the Air Store, which should be able to work using the appropriate local (al)chemistry (on the other hand, compressing gasses may not work in some universes...). This is most likely to affect the use of solid (al)chemical substances as compact stores for air. Relying on such when crossing between universes with different physical laws could be very unwise, unless the DM is kind. Author: JGD.

Explanation of Environmental Devices

Glow Sphere: converts Energy Fluid into cold light using oxygen, giving (up to) as much light as strong moonlight, from the surface of a crystal sphere. Will glow for 3hrs on one charge. Alternatively it uses 1ep/hr (Powered Glow Sphere); as a 2nd level device can draw power directly from an Energy Beam or Potential Field (Tapping Glow Sphere). Uses: none/1ep per hr. Weight: 10gp (excluding Energy Fluid).

Stoves & Stills: after air some of the basic human requirements are water and warmth. Most of the "Power Handling Devices" generate energy, but could be made in a less general way so that they generate heat, or purify or distill water from the environment. It is assumed that devices can be built at -1L for these specialised purposes, using the equivalent of 1ep/turn (assume one turn is one minute) by default. These give enough heat for warmth (could be used to warm water) but not generally for cooking (unless double power is used, if this is possible), or in the case of a still, produces about 2gpwt of pure water per game turn (10 minutes). C Stove: a variety of Charger that cleanly converts fuel into heat, a charge (50gpwt) of dry wood lasting one game turn, coal two, oil four and Energy Fluid or Energy Essence (5gpwt) ten. At +1L fuel lasts twice as long, at +2L 'Fluid or 'Essence (only) last five times as long. See Stoves & Stills. Weight: 100gp (excluding fuel). Non Micro Miniturisable.

E Stove: a variety of stove that turns 1ep/turn from some external supply into heat. See Stoves & Stills. Uses: 1ep/turn. Weight: 50gp.

Filter Cleaning Fluid: is used to clean the filters in a Filter Mask, that has been used to protect from the sorts of gasses and vapours that will clog them (DMs decision as to which these are) and two measures may be made in 5 days, or as a 1st level Alchemical potion (2 measures). Strictly this is an Alchemical Device, but it is listed here because it is only really of use with a Filter Mask. Cost: 200gp. Weight: 7.5gp.

Light Generator: causes the air in a sphere 1-6"rad to glow giving as much light as an overcast day, +6"rad/extra L. At +1L and double cost the shape of the volume may be controlled (Shaped Light Generator), usually between several set shapes, e.g. cone 2-12"long, 5'wide/1"length, beam 6-36"long, 5'wide. A Field Modulator would allow precise dynamic shaping of the volume. At +2L and double cost acts as if includes a Field Modulator for shaping the light (Modulated Light Generator). Note that as the air actually glows this is by default shadowless light, which can be very disorienting for those who are used to light sources, so modulating the light so only the air near a ceiling glows may be wise. Note also that the air very close to living bodies (say within an inch) does not glow. Uses: sphere/cone- 1ep/hr/1", beam- 1ep/hr/3", shaped volume- 1.5ep/hr/1", other shapes- 1ep+/hr, modulation- none. Weight: 50gp, shaped- 150gp.

Sound Generator: causes the air in a sphere 1-6"rad to vibrate giving as much sound as a normal speaking voice, +6"rad/extra L. At +1L and double cost the shape of the volume may be controlled, usually between several set shapes, e.g. cone 2-12"long, 5'wide/1"length, beam 6-36"long, 5'wide (Shaped Sound Generator). The base sounds produced are simple tones or white noise, at +1L a single voice and/or music may be produced over the entire area. Maximum sound volume is doubled per extra L. Does not damage but may give protection against various sound-based effects, +2 save and +1/extra L. Uses: sphere/cone- 5ep/hr/1", beam- 5ep/hr/3", x2/doubled sound volume. Weight: 50gp, improved- 150gp.

Temperature Controller: maintains air movement, temperature and humidity within a (non-sealed) area. In a sealed area would manage the heat output and humidity caused by two humans (x10/extra L, above +2L x2/extra L), but carbon dioxide would build up and oxygen run out, so an Air Cycler or Air Regenerator should be used. For extreme temperatures (above 20degC or below -5degC) a Heat or Cold (or Weather) Field will be needed, and generally the temperature cannot be adjusted more than 10degC, so insulation may be useful. If humidity is being controlled in a (non-sealed) area then water must be supplied or taken away. Filters prevent normal infections being spread by the water, but for complete safety some sort of (Water Purity) Sensor should be added. The air and heat is moved by force-field based blowers and heat pumps, and the area managed is up to 3"rad (x2/extra L), in the form of one or more non-sealed rooms. Uses: 1ep/human/2 turns. Weight: 200gp.

S Stove: a variety of solar-based stove that generates heat on exposure to direct sunlight. Makes use of a flat grey panel oriented on the sun, which can be folded up into quarters for carrying. See Stoves & Stills. Size: 2 square yard/metre. Weight: 20gp. Non Micro Miniturisable.

Background Field Generator: produces the subtle background radiation and energy fields that DMs may rule are needed for long term health. DMs may alternatively rule that this device is completely unnecessary, for example in environments such as a space vehicle. The effects of not using this are not likely to be noticed over short periods of a few weeks, but over a year or more without at least a month in a normal (e.g. planetary) environment effects would occur. Exactly what the effects are is up to the DM, but for example healing might be reduced to half normal rate, disease resistance might decrease (say, -2 saves and +30% duration), fertility might decrease, or miscarriages and mutations or birth deformities increase. Note that this is only for the kind of subtle effects that aren't food, drink, atmosphere or gravity. Also, the type of environment to be produced is selected in construction, and can only be altered subtly without completely rebuilding the device. Uses: 1ep/hr/1"rad. Weight: 50gp.

Filter Mask: a full face mask covering eyes, nose and mouth (Lenses may be fitted). It will filter air to protect totally from gasses, vapours and dusts which require to be inhaled to have an effect. Will be effective for up to 12 game turns in the worst conditions where dust might clog the filters, longer in milder conditions, after which the filters must be cleaned out, which will take at least two rounds, and requires at least minimum technical skills (such as Technophile, or other suitable training). Also made with the Filter Mask are two measures of single-use Filter Cleaning Fluid, which may be used to unclog after exposure to some varieties of gasses or vapours (DMs decision as to which these are), in the worst case after only 12 game turns, with full cleaning requiring up to two minutes. Additional measures of fluid may be made as a batch of two in 5 days at a cost of 200gp, or as a 1st level Alchemical potion (2 measures). Uses: none. Weight: 10gp.

Light Beamer: converts energy into light which comes from a point source and is as strong as weak sunlight with 3" radius (x2/extra L), after which it falls off progressively. This light is quite bright enough to dazzle and blind for D4 rounds in dim light. If a reflector is used the light can be directed in a cone, 6"long and 3"wide, or a tight beam, 9"long and 5'wide. May be turned down to produce dimmer light and thus use less power. Uses: 2ep/game turn (x2/extra L). This device is quite rugged. Weight: 100gp.

Aircloth Suit: is a full suit which does not allow gasses in or out up to 20 (Earth) atmospheres pressure (+15/extra L). This is tight-fitting with no pockets or seams, gives AC6, and is typically used with a Breather Mask, or possibly some Lenses and a Micro Air Supply. Gets very uncomfortable if worn for more than about 30mins. See Aircoth in "Alchemical Devices". Uses: none. Weight: 80gp.

Thermocloth Suit: is a full suit which stops heat, if fully enclosed take -100 damage from heat, cold or these breath weapons, else at most half damage (maximum -50). Also can block infravision, as if it blocks heat it does so both ways, but with no ventilation the wearer 'roasts' in minutes. At +1L the heat flow can be controlled from near perfect insulator to good conductor, in patches if desired. This is tight-fitting with no pockets or seams, gives AC6, and is typically worn with a deep hood or a veil that can be pulled across the face. See Thermocloth in "Alchemical Devices". Uses: none. Weight: 160gp.

Breather Mask: a full face mask covering eyes, nose and mouth (Lenses may be fitted). Supplies air in a number of environments. It will filter air so that most poisonous gasses and dusts (those that need to be inhaled) have no effect, acting as a Filter Mask. Alternatively it can supply stored oxygen (filtering out carbon dioxide and water vapour) for up to 12 game turns (from an alchemical supply) or extract sufficient oxygen for normal movement (exertion causes a switch to the stored supply) from water. The basic form includes an Air Supply, for +500gp and an extra week's work this can be a Fast Air Supply (recharged in a day rather than a week), or for +1000gp and two extra week's work a Self Charging Air Supply (self charges in a day using 1ep/turn). See Air Supply in "Alchemical Devices" for further details. Note that while filtering air some sorts of contaminates (DM's decision which) may mean the filters need cleaning, possibly with Filter Cleaning Fluid (see Filter Mask); no 'Fluid is made with a Breather Mask. Float Bed: an anti-gravity bed where you rest above it in mid-air, weight-less if desired. For 1 person up to 89inches high and 331lb weight, +2 people/extra L; each person is separately supported. Acts as acceleration defence reducing the effects by 2G, +1G/extra L. Includes a heater/cooler and acts as an insect defence. There is a slow shut-down if the power is lost. Must be fixed to a (semi-)rigid object at least 2.5tns (55,000gpwt). Uses: 10ep/turn (assuming a 1G environment), acc. defence- 10ep/1G/turn. Weight: 1000gp.

Video Monitor: converts electrical signals representing visual images into continuous (2D) colour visual images (as bright as an overcast day) on a 6 inches square flat screen. At +1L infrared and ultraviolet may be displayed (a Full Spectrum Video Monitor). For +500gp and an extra week's work may include a Sound Transducer system to reproduce such things as speech and music, a Video & Sound Monitor (at +1L this includes sub/ultra-sonics, a Full Spectrum Video & Sound Monitor). The signals may be recorded, received, synthesised or direct. With suitable processing (e.g a Coder or a suitable program) an image could be split over several screens placed edge-to-edge, to give a larger image. Uses: 1ep/turn. Air Cycler: maintains air movement, temperature and humidity in a closed environment, and filters out carbon dioxide supplying stored oxygen for up to two humans (x10/extra L, above +2L x2/extra L) from a parallel pair of 'Air Supply's for 12 game turns (4 man-hours). This is the same Air Supply as used in a Breather Mask. For +1000gp and an extra week's work these can be 'Fast Air Supply's (recharged in a day rather than a week), or for +2000gp and two extra week's work 'Self Charging Air Supply's (self charges in a day using 1ep/turn). See Air Supply in "Alchemical Devices" for further details. There is sufficient room for a Heavy Air Supply instead of the two 'Air Supply's in an 'Cycler, giving a total 24 man-hours, and a 'Cycler can be connected to an external Macro Air Supply, giving two man-weeks. A simply display shows how much capacity remains in the current supply(s) being drawn on, even if it is an external Macro Air Supply. Otherwise as a Temperature Controller. Note that this device has no real redundancy, so for safety at least a pair should be used. Uses: maintainance- 1ep/human/2 turns, filter&supply- none. Gravity Generator: is a fixed device which controls gravity around, usually above, it. Gravity may be controlled fully in a 1-3"rad sphere, +3"max/extra L, the field falls off beyond this to normal at 1G/1'rad. Gravity may be varied between zero and 5G (i.e. -4G to +4G), +2G max/extra L. Control may be used to provide artificial gravity, (partially) negate normal gravity, protect from acceleration, or a combination of these; for really fine control (e.g. spot zero G or high G) a Field Modulator is required. The generator must be fixed to a (semi-)rigid object at least 0.5tns (11,000gpwt), plus 0.5tns per 1G it can apply, i.e. 2.5tns for the maximum base 4G, +1tn/extra L; this is not required if it is Non Material or Areal. This means that to apply 1G artificial gravity, or to negate 1G requires only 1tn. At +2L a Dynamic Gravity Generator may be built which does not need to be fixed to anything, but otherwise functions as if -2L. The fields of two or more 'Generators may overlap providing a smooth fields, as long as there are no uncovered areas beyond their radii. May be assumed to be capable of detecting gravity (and acceleration) changes. Sometimes called a Rigid Gravity Generator. This has full double redundancy, as loss of gravity control can be fatal. Uses: 10ep/1G change/1"rad/turn. Weight: 1000gp.

Inertcloth Suit: is a full suit in which are not effected by corrosives other than fluorine, including most acids/alkalis or these breath weapons; a waterproof non-conductor. If fully enclosed take no damage (from electricity only protects as Dischargecloth), else at most half. At +1 L not effected even by fluorine. This is tight-fitting with no pockets or seams, gives AC6, and is typically worn with a deep hood or a veil that can be pulled across the face. See Inertcloth in "Alchemical Devices". Uses: none. Weight: 160gp.

Spacecloth Suit: is a full suit of Multi Cloth which combines Aircloth and Thermocloth. This is tight-fitting with no pockets or seams, gives AC6, and is typically used with Lenses and a Micro Air Supply. Gets very uncomfortable if worn for more than about 10mins. At +1L Controlled Spacecloth gives about 30mins of comfort. Where possible a Multi Environment Suit is worn in preferance. See Aircloth Suit and see Thermocloth Suit. Multi Environment Suit: a very advanced composite, body-covering device giving protection in most environments. Biological Theory I is required. Functions to insulate the body so no radiation (heat) escapes through to radiates heat to keep the wearer cool. Acts as a space-suit and the included Breather Mask allows safe existence (for up to 12 game turns) in any non-corrosive atmosphere at up to 20 (Earth) atmospheres pressure (+15/extra L). At +1L the Breather Mask is replaced by an Air Regenerator (miniturised) giving indefinite air recycling, and at +2L the Air Regenerator is micro-miniturised and a Food Synthesiser (miniturised) is added which gives total recycling (of everything except body odour). Gives protection from heat or cold or these forms of breath weapon (as Thermocloth) as long as are sealed up and the suit is undamaged. If the hood and face-mask are not sealed when attacked by heat or cold treat as half damage before saving throw (up to -50HP). Gives AC6 (without shield), if hit by an edged weapon assume the suit is damaged. Requires Aircloth and Controlled Thermocloth (Controlled Spacecloth at +1L), an Alarm, and Sensors. A Transceiver could be included. Note the need for an external power supply. Cost: 12kgp (+1L 15.5kgp, +2L 24.5kgp). Price: 35kgp (x2.5/extra L). Uses: 1ep/turn, extreme normal heat or cold- 5ep/turn, heat or cold attack- 10ep/attack. Weight: 300gp, +1L 200gp.

Creates or maintains a breathable atmosphere for up to two humans (x10/extra L, above +2L x2/extra L) if oxygen is available in most forms (e.g. hydrogen oxide (water), nitrogen di/trioxide, etc). Also maintains air temperature, and correct humidity level by adding or removing water, and may pass excess carbon and water on to other devices. May need corrosion proofing in some environments (x2 cost). Otherwise as a Temperature Controller. This is the lowest L at which this device can be built with full double redundancy; something that is highly desirable in an air supply. Atmosphere Creation: can be done by an Air Regenerator, using power as if it were an Inorganic Synthesiser. For example an atmosphere can be created in closed environment, starting from a vacuum, by synthesising air from ammonium nitrate at approx. 28 rounds per 2m hex (91 cubic ft), using 275gpwt of ammonium nitrate, x2 rate/extra L. More quickly a breathable half (standard Earth) atmospheric pressure can be produced (double normal oxygen proportion), thus requiring half the time, and by the time this is half done a survivable atmosphere will have been produced, so approx. 7 rounds per hex. The waste gasses could be vented, but more usefully be stored as water, hydrocarbons, or alcohols. For simplicity the power used to store waste gasses should not be considered to be greater than that for venting them. Just normal air on its own weighs about 229gpwt per hex. See Air Regenerator.

Atmosphere Solids: might be a store of ammonium nitrate and carbon. The ammonium nitrate provides a useful solid source of oxygen, nitrogen and water, and the carbon can soak up excess hydrogen and oxygen as hydrocarbons and alcohols. This all assumes that this form of (al)chemistry works in this universe. Instead of creation or maintenance an Air Regenerator can make these solids at 10gpwt/round (x2/extra L), effectively by the reverse of Atmosphere Creation. See Air Regenerator.

Auto Chef: a specialised Material Synthesiser (see "Alchemical Devices") which prepares cooked food from uncooked food ingredients (meat, vegetables, animal and vegetable products, herbs, spices, etc) and places it in suitable containers with utensils (both of which must be supplied). Works well with an Organic Preserver (see "Biological Devices") to store the ingredients, or part-prepared food. Also is useful to prepare the non-concentrated form of (Indefinately) Preserved Food. The time required to prepare the food varies from one to ten turns, depending on how complex the processing required is. One thing may be in preparation at a time (e.g. a joint(s) of meat), but a number of things may be heated and/or cooled together. Assume that a meal is up to 100gpwt of food, drink, utensils, and containers, and note that the 'Chef can clean, but not repair or produce, the utensils and containers. Also note that a 'Chef cannot hurry biological processes such as yeast making bread rise, or fermentation of wine (etc), but can provide a suitable controlled environment. A minor version, the Lesser Auto Chef, may be constructed at the same L which has a tenth maximum and weight. Generally requires a scan of the food to be prepared from a Machine Scanner (cannot use Food Patterns), though can be hand-programmed; contains a standard scan for Preserved Food. This auto-seals at a sudden pressure drop and as long as the hood is used survival is possible in vacuum for 10mins using a Micro Air Supply in the collar. The senses all have automatic overload-filters built-in to prevent blindness from sudden and/or bright lights and deafness from loud noises. Scent Generator: a system which can generate a wide range of non-harmful scents and smells positioned in a 1"rad hemi-sphere from a basic stock of (al)chemical materials which should last almost indefinately. Weather Controller: can generate any weather, with fine control over an extended area, e.g. create high/low pressure region. Force Field Theory III is required. The limits are weather that could naturally occur in that region with the given climate and season; snow in summer is not possible but hail might be. Lightning storms may be generated but the lightning strikes cannot be directed. Note that the rate of weather change may be unnaturally fast, for example from a clear to a total overcast sky in a game turn, but may not be instant. Uses: 10ep/1"rad/turn. Weight: 10,000gp.

Touch Generator: converts a set of touch signals which represent the size, shape, texture and movement of objects within a volume into a delicate force field which simulates touch and can exert up to 3 STR. The signals may be recorded, received, synthesised or direct. The force field which simulates an object will be disrupted for a round if an object is forced through the simulated object, this requires more than 3 STR, if an object is held so it penetrates a simulated object then that object may not reform so as to be able to be touched until it is removed. This may be used as a remote manipulator, but there will be feedback problems in complex tasks unless a Touch Scanner is used as feedback to a Touch Generator at the remote end. Another use would be to give a 'skin' to a robot with a rigid metal surface, where the detail can be down to the touch of a single hair. Humanoid Dimensional Display: a Dimensional Display which displays only a single humanoid form. Reality Theory I is required. The exact humanoid form may vary, but the whole form must be displayed, and it must fit within the radius (a sphere 1"rad, up to 1" from the display, +1"rad and +1"range per extra L). Otherwise as a Dimensional Display of +1L. There is no Micro Dimensional Display version of this. Uses: 10ep/turn. Weight: 1000gp.

Terraformer: converts an unlivable environment into one suitable for habitation without protection. Life Theory II and Multi-Planar Theory II, and Reality Theory II or (Al)Chemical Theory III, is required to construct, and Life Theory I or Environmental Technology III to operate. This massive device includes the equivalent of an Inorganic and Organic Synthesiser, multiple (3) Arti Wombs and Medi Scanners with a Lesser Mould Support System for them, a specialised Transporter which only operates within its extended fields, a combined Multi, Life and Organic Scanner which can reach anywhere within the extended fields and give fixes to the Transporter, and a computer control system which has a great deal of expertise in balencing the complex structures which make up an environment, and will warn if there are flaws in the design, or developing in the process of terraforming. It does not transmute elements but can resynthesise suitable elements in any form to produce a balenced atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere, and even seasons. If fed by a Matter Creator does not need any materials to convert, but can only provide an environment containing elements no more complex than iron, adding a Matter Transmuter allows any sort of environment. This device senses any living creatures in the environment and will not modify it so they come to harm, unless they are synthesised terraforming organisms. Multiple Terraformers can cooperate in generating an environment as long as they can communicate at least Video Transceiver quality information; overlapping their extended fields is sufficient for this. Note that most of the weight (90%) takes the form of holding chambers for the preparation of materials, and the original version of this was a Mad Scientist device. Terraforming: is the process of creating a habitable environment using a Terraformer. These can range from simple environments containing enough air for large populations and tens of tons of water with a sealed ground surface taking days, through thousands of tons of water and a minimal ground surface taking years, to millions of tons of water and a proper ground surface which takes hundreds of years. Synthesis of special layers in the various 'spheres, which will do useful things like hold in or prevent access to heat or other radiation, or make gravity ten times more effective at preventing atmosphere loss, is practical. Waste material, such as hydrogen or various metals, can be vented beyond the limits of the atmosphere, or locked in stable forms deep below the surface to act as future raw materials, using the extended fields which are also used to bring in more materials to convert. Heat and other flows in the lithosphere can be generated in a self-sustaining fashion to create the magnetic and other fields which surround a habitable environment. Technologists could use this process for mining, but no ethical ones will for fear of disrupting the environment.

Terraforming Organisms: are simple life forms synthesised by a Terraformer in its Arti Womb capacity to assist in the process of creating a habitable environment. Special undifferentiated Culture (see "Life Devices") is required to do this, and the life forms may not be more complex than nematode worms. These organisms can be designed to be a permanent part of the environment to do useful things like regenerate the 'spheres, including any special protective layers, over time, or they may be part of the terraforming process, to do things like speed up the preparation of a usable ground surface, and might draw the energy they need to work, and even survive, from the Terraformer's extended fields.

Planar Sink: stores waste heat in what is effectively a nearly undetectable pocket universe, which is created when this device is created. Reality Theory II and Multi Planar Theory II is required. This functions as a Thermal Sink, with no need for any dureum or reflec in its construction. Has a maximum of 2.5Mep heat storage (x10/extra L). A Planar Sink is particularly useful in environments where there is nowhere to safely dump heat, such as inside a Cache or a Pocket Universe. This device effectively includes a not usually physically accessable Cache and a Cache Key, see "Creation Devices", but the Cache is only suitable for storing waste heat, and does not contain a reality suitable for living, or even material, things. The usual rules apply for re-attaching the Cache if this device is so badly damaged contact is lost with it; note that this device is very rugged, and should be treated as embedded in +4 Crystal. Cost: x2. Uses: 1ep/100ep stored, 1ep/400ep released. Weight: 50gp.

Climate Controller: can instantly generate any climate. Force Field Theory III is required. The limits are natural climates, between -50degC and +50degC with any level of humidity, and everything from increasing the sun's heat, to producing one or more fake suns, to shielding its heat and/or light completely is possible. Snow, rain, hail, gale force winds (up to 100mph), (directed) tornadoes, (precision) directed lightning strikes, whirlpools, water spouts, perfect weather no matter how the surroundings are, and any other weather effect is possible. For some effects extra water, such as a lake or a (fresh water) sea to draw on, may be neccessary, water could be supplied by a Matter Transmuter or such. Note can also act as a Weather Controller. Uses: 20ep/1"rad/turn. Weight: 10,000gp.

Dimensional Display: converts a range of (holographic electrical) signals representing an object in multiple sensory dimensions (as bright as full sunlight, as loud as does not cause injury, etc) into a continuous 'image'. Reality Theory I is required. The 'image' may consist of a composite as if an Image Display, a Fine Scent Generator, and a Touch Generator all of -1L, were used in a coordinated fashion. This is done by basic manipulation of reality (the scents and smells produced are quite real and permanent in existance). The smells produced may be accurately placed in different parts of the 'image' so that with the Touch field they will convince a sense of taste, as long as an attempt is not made to remove (e.g. bite off) part of the 'image'. Disruption of the Touch field need not effect the rest of the 'image'. The signals may be recorded, received, synthesised or direct. A Micro Dimensional Display may be built at the same L which has a tenth image radius and range; this is not strictly speaking a Miniturised device as the functionality is reduced. Fixed Dimensional Display: a Dimensional Display which displays a fixed-in-construction continuous multi-sense 'image' in a 3"rad sphere centred about the display, +2"rad/extra L. Reality Theory I is required. The duration of the image before it repeats is 1hr, various behaviours totaling no more than 1hr may be realistically switched between by external control, e.g. various monologs, shapechanges, combat maneuvers, (fixed position) objects appearing or disappearing, and other interesting full sensory spectrum effects. A Fixed Micro Dimensional Display may be built at the same L which has a tenth image radius and range; this is not strictly speaking a Miniturised device as the functionality is reduced. For 10% of the construction cost and with a R/MM roll the image may be changed. Uses: 10ep/turn, micro- 1ep/turn. Weight: 1000gp, micro- 13gp.

Fast Terraformer: is a version of Terraformer which is 13x quicker. Includes instead one Fast Arti Womb and two Macro Arti Wombs, a Mould Support System, a Mass Processor, and an Organic Mass Processor. If larger lifeforms which have other than the instincts from just being born are required, then attaching several Macro Android Moulds would be useful. Might in fact be up to 169x quicker, but considerable care (at least Life Theory II) would be needed to make sure the environment was stable, and it would be wise to carefully supervise it for tens of years to make sure.
