Blast Shape

The standard four blast shapes cover the shape of the area of effect and this is selected in construction. If a shape other than the basic cylinder is used the name is sometimes changed, for example a Hand Blaster using the cone shape might be called a Hand Blazer, a Stunner a Stunner-Blazer, a Disrupter Cannon a Disrupter Cannon-Blazer. The beam shape is sometimes called a Needler, and the bolt shape a Flasher, a Bolter, or a Stitcher. Another option is to suffix the device name with the shape, for example Hand Blaster I: cone; if no suffix is given the basic cylinder shape is assumed.
If any blaster-type weapon is constructed at +1L it can switch between two blast shapes chosen in construction. For example a standard Hand Blaster does 3D6, has the blaze blast shape, and is a 3rd level device, if constructed as a 4th level device it could switch between blaze and needle, or even focus to various settings between the two, still doing 3D6 and otherwise being as the 3rd level device. This example is sometimes called the 'Focusable Blazer' or 'Fazer'. Another example is the 'Focusable Blaster' or 'Faster' which focuses between the cylinder shape and the beam shape, giving longer range as the focus gets tighter. If constructed at +2L all the blast shapes are available and can be switched between, or focused between, as suitable. As an option if a Tech is capable of constructing a device at +3L then duo-shape is allowed for just +250gp construction cost at no extra cost in time (the same L), and if capable of +4L omni-shape for +500gp in the same time. Power usage is as the blast shape used, weight of the device is as the weight of the heaviest blast shape.
Explanation of Blaster Devices
Hand Stunner: an energy weapon which produces an invisible (visible with ultravision or see invisible) effect doing up to 2D6 (+1D6/extra L) shock subdual damage, half effect if save V death ray at -2 on save. If over double hit points or double constitution (use larger) is taken then must save V death ray or die; otherwise are in a coma and further stunning has no effect. Non-subduable creatures (e.g. some Undead) take real damage rather than subdual but automatically save. The type of shape the effect takes is chosen during construction, some types require to hit a given AC to take effect:

Hand Blaster: similar to a Hand Stunner but the effect is visible and causes damage rather than subdual damage, otherwise as a Hand Stunner II, i.e. up to 3D6, 1-3"long Blast/Blaze etc. If something takes full damage and survives it stops the effect behind it. A save V death ray gives half damage, if loose more than half of remaining hit points then must save V death ray or be stunned for 2D4 rounds. Each 3D6 of blaster damage does a third of a point of structural damage. Blast uses power over two segments, 5ep the first (pre-fire) and the rest (if any) the second. Hand Disrupter: similar to a Hand Blaster but the effect causes wounds by means of a very noisy disruption/disintegration effect, otherwise as a Hand Blaster II, i.e. up to 4D6, 1-4"long Blast/Blaze etc. Non-living objects which are reduced below zero hit points are broken into irregular pieces, none larger than a tenth of the original object's dimensions. On living creatures the effect is similar to burns but no heat is involved, dead bodies are treated as non-living objects (if reduced below hit points or constitution negative, use larger, are considered dead). Each dice (D6) of disrupter damage does one structural point of damage. Blast uses power over two segments, 7ep the first (pre-fire) and the rest (if any) the second.
